Arrow Sony Xperia Play OMFG UNNGGG

http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/28/s...a-play-review/

Great! Another hole to throw my money at. Although Engadget are dissing it for its low-budget case plastics and the fact that there are no games exclusively for this errrm, phone.

Might pay to wait until they sort these issues out. Still...what a concept.

ah and I just signed up for a n97 mini....

I loved my PSP, but to be honest it became annoying after a while as I just played games on my PS3 anyway.

Its still a cool idea.

I had the X10 Xperia and am now waiting for the X12, but beyond that I'm wide open. Price will be the determining factor though.

I think Sony has taken the right step here. Alot of phones still offer slide-out qwerty keyboards...but I think most ppl have got used to typing on touch-screens, especially with innovations such as Swype. So why not slide something else out from the phone? I know playing games with just a touch screen can be annoying because your thumbs/fingers take up half the screen.
Definitely a good idea, I hope other phone makes take up similar ideas!

A little bump...anyone have one of these? Im over my nokia POS.

I had a look through Targets Toy Catalog and they have a deal for the Xperia prepaid $199..which is apparently $100 off....

Do want, I love crash bandicoot. I remember I had an old windows smartphone about 5 years ago that ran DOOM very well, even had some nifty controls, only problem was battery life. Should be great when more PS1 games are released. Holding out for Gran Turismo 2 so I can play it on the train on the way to uni

Im a sony fan and had a psp..exactly the same as you...I played it on the train etc until it became a PIA and I couldnt be bothered looking at a little screen.

But linking it into a phone gets me over the line because Ill only play games when I am desperately bored.

I found GT pretty hard on the PSP...maybe because I have a G27 at home but yeah I sold it about 4 months after purchasing.

Be gold if the Xperia has skype.

Road Warrior, it cant be any worse than my Nokia N97 mini. Love the key board but the firmware and setup is craptacular.

I remember what a success the last phone designed with games in mind was.

LOL well yes but this one is different IMO, doesnt look like a "game" phone. You dont even have to flip it out I guess.

Let me be clear: its not a bad phone, its just compromised. The screen is too small for a bloke's fingers to type text messages quickly (or use internet easily) and its obvious the processor doesnt have quite enough grunt to run Android 4.0 smoothly. Compared with my Mrs' new HTC whatsermacallit which is lightening fast and bloody huge, the Xperia Ray seems more like a toy. Sometimes I have to bash the crap out of the screen to get it to respond to touch inputs. It is very well made though.

I might offload it and get a Samsung Galaxy SII.

Are there any phones around these days with actual QWERTY keypads and a decent sized screen? 4" plus.

I had one for about 14months until it decided to swim in the toilet... (i wasn't playing with it at the time, honestly!)

great phone if your a massive games fan. Playing with buttons and not touch screen makes a HUGE differance and fairly quick phone, main downside was such small phone memory, fills up quick if you have apps that you cant move to SD card.

I got a S2 4g now because i browse the internet alot more than play games

Used worse.
My bosses son has one but its currently sat on my desk. Had an issue with the slider and the screen going off. He sent it off to be repaired and i think they did more harm than good. They blamed software... It was unlocked bootloader and rooted, thats all, and they couldnt get it to work. What a bunch of monkeys they were!

Got it back so to test the dodgy software theory i flashed an ics kernal with clockwork mod to see if it was that, nope, screen still went off when in recovery and to top it off i got the blinking red light which basically means the battery is stuffed!

So its still sat on my desk and cant be used because the battery is dead and when it does boot, it bootloops as the rom doesnt work with that kernal.. ooops!

As with all things that mechanically slide, it will wear out. He loves it, but then he loves his gameboy .....
