G'day there. Just wondering what type of esky's we were using in the early 80's, say 1980/82? Were they metal or plastic? Can anyone remember? I was 5 so i didn't pay to much attention. Any help will be appreciated.
Cheers. |

I am the same age as you mate, but remember we had a yellow metal Malleys with a plastic inner that we took on picnics. There is a photo of me on it as a toddler. Great little esky, only went to the big esky in the sky a few years ago when the metal outer got too much rust.

The one I remember from my childhood was metal. It was a browny/orange with a little eskimo on the side.
Pretty sure the parents had a foam one at one stage as well.

The metal ones were still common and the coolite (polystyrene) were cheap and "trendy".
The stronger all polyethylene ones were more expensive but lasted longer. 6 pack coolite eskys were all the go as back then drink driving was not a focus and everyone and their dog always had half a dozen stubbies in the car for the drive. |

Plastic ones were pretty rare. If you had coin, a metal esky it was. On a budget, coolite one. Inside, the budget concious had Brisbane Bitter, while most others had XXXX. Heavy's only mind you, no poofs drinking light beer back then! :

Forgotten about those tartan ones.
Still have an old green metal/plastic liner esky[with eskimo:] . Keeps beer cooler than the new ones. |
