Default Costello to Bow out of politics

Love him or hate him, Peter Costello is bowing out of politics.

http://www.news.com.au/story/0,27574...23-421,00.html

Costello won't renominate for Higgins seat
"Time to pursue other interests"
Serve out current term as backbencher
FORMER federal Liberal treasurer Peter Costello will not contest the next federal election.

A report in The Australian claims Mr Costello has opted against renominating for his seat of Higgins.

The announcement was made on Mr Costello's website today.

"I have informed my electorate committee that I will not nominate for re-election as the Member for Higgins," he said.

"Over the course of the last 18 months many constituents - and Australians from all over the country - have urged me to re-nominate. I have enjoyed the complete support of my Electorate Committee and the Liberal Party organisation in this regard.

"Nevertheless my view is, as it was in November 2007, that it is time for me to pursue other interests and it is in the long term interest of the Liberal Party for others of ability and integrity to step forward and represent it."

This is not meant to be a political thread, merely an update on current events. As a number of you own your own businesses, it is a rather poigniant point to the potential future of ones own interests.

Good Luck to Mr Costello in the future.

I own my own business, I'm a little lost as to what the retiring member for Higgins has to do with it?
Oh you thought he would become our next Prime Minster and defeat the GFC single handed

I am sorry to see him go, I was looking forward to seeing him lead the Lib's to the next election...........

and being defeated :evil3:

Once considered heir apparent to PM John Howard. If this thread had 'underbelly' somewhere in the title i'm guessing this important bit of news may have had more than 4 posts!
