Default Heater core

I got these back a while ago, just never got round to posting up pics

As most would know, the original heater cores are not available any more (for cars with AC that is) and getting the ones that I had reconditioned just was not happening. So, as I made mention of before, I had 2 new ones made up plus I got another 2 cores made as well. I think they turned out very well indeed

The spare core

Unfortunately yes. Early on, I was told that they were not being made as yet, however, in time, they would be. After a few more years I was then told they production for the XC hardtops would soon commence. Shortly thereafter, the Company doing the job went through a of number 'staffing problems', so another wait began. Time went passed and there was simply no word at all (and I mean quite some time) and then I heard "they'll be here soon". Sure enough, a few months went past and they arrived. Only problem was that they were for manual windows.

So, another wait began. It then got to "they'll be here in a 2 months". This went on for about 6 months. Then, the period got down to "they'll be here in 2 weeks". This then went on for another 6 months and then, once again, all quiet. However, with constant pushing by Tony and George at Superoo, the door trims were promised by Christmas. They did arrive by Christmas time, it's just that Superoo closed its doors on Thursday. Today though, I went and picked them up so all is good now.

Default Floor pan

This is another job I got finished a few months ago, the floor pan! Lots of scraping and cleaning followed by a very dirty and smelly paint job.

Before

And after

The plan now for next week will be to;
1) get the underlay & carpet in
2) get the hood lining in (all of which are ready to go)
3) get the rear window in along with the seal & window moulds
4) get the rear parcel shelf in along with the two rear door cards
5) and then the rear seat can go in

I will be leaving the front seats and console out until I have all of the dash in

So, all is happy and good in Cobra 140 land tonight.

That is insane, where did you get them from???

I had the exact same ones made about 15-20 years ago, was about 1-2 weeks turn around.....they have always been made.

Hi Paul,
I just found your thread out of the blue. Mate what a read. I have spent the last hour reading it. lots of great feedback on your project and I concur.
I bought my 12 year old son his first car (the XC in my Avatar) and we have begun the restoration process. Not to the extent you are undertaking but what a mission hey!!!!

Just wanted to say congrats its a fantastic car and I look forward to seeing it on the road and at many Ford shows around Perth. I will be reading your thread with great interest as it comes to a conclusion over the coming year.

Adam.

just a small update.

The front screen went in today and the rear screen went in and then came out again. We had problems getting the moulds to stay in the rubber seal (seal is too big) so we thought we would try and get the screen in and then try and fit the moulds - ahhhh NO!

So out it came and we had another go at getting the moulds in. They are mostly in but still need a bit more work to get them sitting right in the rubber seal.

As mentioned above, the front screen went in no problems at all.

Here are few pics

And now the rear screen
Fits perfectly, went in real easy bit now we must battle with the moulds

And now out again with the moulds fitted to the rubber/screen

And lastly, the pinch welds are in too

Default NOS rear quarter markers????

And to finish the night off on a very good note, a good luck story:

Every once in a while you get an offer of assistance and in this case, the work done by a fellow forum member (Cobreta) is simply outstanding!!!

If you have a look at this thread XC Falcon Hardtop rear quarter markers you will see that initially I was unsure as to what the correct lenses were to be fitted and if they were available. However, in time, along came a reasonable second hand set but I was still not real happy with them. So, I took Cobreta up on his offer and this is how it turned out

New ones

And a few pics of the old (original) and the new

In effect, NOS front markers were uses and mint condition ZH Fairlane lenses (red section) were moulded together: very happy indeed!!!!!!!!

Hey Paul this is getting interesting. The trims in the pics on my page are for cobra #255, I'm trying to find out the number of the car I did prior.

I too was concerned but seriously George, the rear screen was an absolute snap going in. My problem was that I had bought moulds that weren't from the car and that they are slightly bent. Also, the seal is too big so the combination of the two made it difficult but not impossible.

I take it that your car, the window, seal and moulds came out so it should go back in quite well.

Louise, unfortunately no updates as yet. Work and family commitments have seen work on the Cobra almost stop for now. It is a case of priorities, namely family and home stuff first.

In that, the Wall has now been finished

BUT!! She who must be obeyed has me onto another project, the Spa!

I had very much wanted to get his done before the end of this summer (it has so been so bloody hot in Perth of late!!) but even this isn't likely to occur

But what has really been taking up the time, both working on and going away, is that of the Campervam (ex-Ambo)

We are going on another little holiday next weekend so with that, the poor old XC languishes in the shed feeling very unloved Even more so for the XD, it wont see anything being done for quite some time.

I am hoping to get some more time on it in the second half of this year on the Cobra. There are a few smaller jobs, get the passenger side window and install, fit the rear screen along with the parcel shelf that may get done sooner. Once done, I can then finish off the interior, just don't know when.

Let's just say that I find it very difficult to do 'nothing' in my spare time. Also, doing stuff at home be it brick laying, wood working, metal fabrication or working on cars, I find it very rewarding and also value adding. It's also nice to take on a project, do it all yourself, save some money and have the satisfaction of knowing you have done it all yourself.

Case in point, I always wanted a 'proper' Barby

It went from this;

To this

And finished with this (well almost, I have a patio over this area now)

I'll be the first to admit that what I do is not perfect, far from it, but it's good fun and I do enjoy it.

It wasn't always so neat, hence having such a big driver to get things 'organised'.

Look at this organised state of the spare parts. No wonder the Cobra build is of such a high standard!!!

Diffs stacked up and aligned perfectly

Engines down one flank

Transmissions down another

The clarity...whereas pics of my garage are too embarassing for me to post
