Default tickford 220 vs barra 220?

Hey everyone
i havnt been on for a while due to i bought a new car a few months back after my falcon blew up and decided to try jap and got a mr2 turbo..........but miss my v8's, sure the mr2 pulls a 13.5 but grrr the sound of the v8. But my question is im looking for a v8 ute, lowest ide wanna go is the 185kw 5 litre but it would have to be manual but the 220kw would be heaps better. But there is also the barra 220 v8 and the boss 260. I have no idea on the old xr8 5litre quarter mile times weights zero to hundreds anything really, but if the price of ba xr8's dont come down im gonna look for a barra 220 version or au 220, but the au would have to be manual...... whats better, dis advanteges and advantages of both............i had a ed v8 im just worried the au would be to slow.........

Hrrrm...

The 3V SOHC 5.4L has shown some real potential with with a few very quick bolt on and tune cars coming out of ACE.

thats the way i'd go but get the XLS over the XL just for the nicer inside, differn't suspention, wheels Etc.

Either way though an AUII/III XR8 ute or a BA XLS V8 is going to be a good car with potential for more fun.

au 2/3 xr8 utes only had 200kw motors i have an au2 xr8 fitted with 220kw motor i can tell you this car flys ,its main advantage over the BA is its weight its a fair bit lighter than the current BA platform if you want the the ultimate AU Ute there was a version of the AU series 3 fitted with a 250kw stroker motor.

AU's arn't slow thats for sure, i have a mate of mine who drives an AUII XR8 220Kw AUto, just as quick as mine untill top of 3rd then mine pulls on it.

But i'd say theres more power in the 3V for less money than a windsor.

lol and insurance im not worried im payin 3500 for my mr2 turbo lol so au11 up au xr8 or 3v 5.4 look the go if no cheap ba xr8 are available? what times to 200kw and 220 au's pull?

I drove my brother barra 220 manual xt the other day and its great for torque,but I dont like the fly by wire throttle,and the sound of a windsor 302 (220) is sooooo much better.Once my house is finished Ill either do a full conversion in my wagon or buy an AU Xr8 series III.(Im actually looking at one now).but I cant buy it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : : :

My son has a 3V in a BA manual, & it would have to be one of the nicesets V8s I have driven, including T3s BA GTs & XR8s, gen3s clubbies etc, mabe not the most powerfull, but without a doubt the most tractable engine around..Smooth, strong, reliable, & a whole world of power to be released..

Read the whole thread here to the end and you will see that you can make a tough car a whole lot more tougher with a few simple mods. To date there isn't an XR8 quicker down the 1/4 mile than my manual XT (12.71) or my customers auto (12.58)

All the Mags Etc when they were new quoted 14.7-14.8, alot of owners run those time too...

but my mate (AUII XR8 220kw Auto Stock) ran a 14.2 multiple times at calder with a full tank of fuel, esky & Work clothes in the boot, towbar on and didn't fiddle with tyre pressures either.

Get an SS ute, add an exhaust and edit and you'll be running 12s all day. As much as I like Fords, if it comes down to V8s id rather an LS1, lighter, smaller, responds better to mods, and larger aftermarket. (than the 5.4) Plus they can be bored/stroked to over 7L.

Wheels did a BA XT V8 5 speed manual vs an SV8 6 speed manual comparo a few years ago. I think the BA did 0-100 in low 7s (The SV8 was in the high 6s I think, I dont have the mag any more). They could prob get better out of it though. It was the gearing that was the problem.

I think the AUIII 220kw manual XR8 did 0-100 in about 7 secs or maybe high 6s. And if my memory serves me I think the AU 185kw was mid to high 7s and the AUII 200kw low to mid 7s 0-100. Depends on your gearbox choice. Same with the Barra. The 230kw 500nm BF 6spd auto faimont ghia did 0-100 in 6.8 and the qtr in 14.3 in a wheels test.

All I know is my BA XT 5.4l 4spd auto (220kw) is alot quicker than the old 165kw 5 litre 4spd auto ef I had. The BA has so much more torque! As long as you can get past the stupid electronic throttle.

AU XR8 185kW = 15.2 - 14.8

AUII XR8 200kW = 14.8 - 14.5

BA XT 220kW = 15.1 - 14.9

The 5.0 has way more aftermarket and way more time in development. And in any AU XR8 form should be able to at least match, if not see off the 220 3V in stock form. Obviously the times above are with better drivers and/or conditions. You won't necessarily get into a 220 and run 14.3 in it, lots of stuff can vary... but that's about what they're capable of.

au III XR8 MANUAL TIMES were officially quoted as the 1st v8 to match a gtho phIII at 14.4 quarter from factory . nowadays a 190 barra will pull high 14's all day auto.

Didn't the normal AU XR8 Utes only go as far is 200kw and was speed limited to around 180km/h? I don't think the 220kW engine ever got in there. If you wanted somthing different at a relatively good price how about Pursuit 250 stroked 5.6? Now those make a great sound! Those would be the fastest standard out of the lot of them (5.0 & Barra 220) wouldn't it?

The six can rev almost 1000rpm more though. Low revs the V8 would kick its butt though. I think the new 230 is alot quicker then the 220 simply because of the extra revs.
