Hi guys new ED owner and member of this site.
Two questions 1.My ED still has the stock headunit which I want to swap out. Is it hard to remove the dash around and what is the best way to tackle it? 2. Only happens when very hot (like 30 degress outside) when I start it the car wont idle and keeps stalling, I have the throw it into D or R as quick as possilbe and jump on the gas (not good for the box). When its cold or a cool day it doesnt happen and once driving its fine will idle again normally. Is this a sensor somewhere? I thought maybe the idle control but weird only happens on hot days? I've searched for both of these above and can't find anything specific but apologies if these have already been answered. Thanks |

1. Piece of ****. There are two screws holding the radio surround in (at the top looking upwards). You'll need a torx bit (can get them from places like Dick Smith, Repco etc) to remove the stock head unit. You can find a wiring diagram on fordmods.com or in the workshop manual.

*EDIT* Typed too slow!
I dunno how much ED head units' screws/mounting differs from EB1s, but here's my hot tip: * There are two screws pointing up at either side of the head unit (along the top edge of the plastic panel which surrounds the head unit). Remove panel, and keep in mind that the ciggy lighter is still wired up so the panel can't be thrown on the back seat. * There are two screws which anchor the head unit to two brackets either side, behind the plastic panel (when removed). You need a tamper-proof screwdriver for these screws, as they have a "nipple" on them. * Slide head unit out. Unplug from rear (should be a single plug, plus the black antenna cable plug). Volia! -Dave- PS I'll pass on answering the idle problem. Welcome to the forums mate ;) |

Thanks for the welcome and info.
I was more interested in best way to get dash or surrounds off Im resonably comfortable with car stereos just dont wanna rip plastic surround to pieces learning how to do it the proper way ;-) Or are these screws visible with out taking panel off? Might have to go have a look, torx bit is no problem have plenty of those. Thanks again |

nah u have to take the plastic surround off, as the other guys have said just 2 screws on facing upwards, (not sure if there is one behind the ash tray?) or it might just pop off like ef/els do. the rest of the stuff is look, unscrew, pull and repeat :P
