Default Power Bill

I think I,ve found a bigger rip off in Qld than the rego increases. The power bill. Ever since our fearless leader Mr Beattie said deregulation would be great for our power bills, they have gone up, up and up. Anyone else suffering.......

Yep, ours just seems to be getting bigger. No matter how careful we are. Minimal lights (usually use a floor or table lamp with a 10/15w fluro), no air con or ceiling fans. Have gas hot water and cooktop.

Absolutely everything is going up in Qld .. not just the power bills!

I can't honestly think of anything off the top of my head that isn't going up.

Me too. The incompetence of this govt is staggering.
I did get one of those power wise meters. $50 plus they replace your incandescent bulbs with CF. Well worth it, we did find some power hungry devices.

NSW ones just went up too. We have two more increases to look forward too.
Then there will be the inevitable increases once they privatise it here.
Its a joke.

Ours seemed pretty good till they privatised it. Boy did it go up after that. Good luck with yours, I'm sure you'll notice the difference..............

Everything and anything will increase in price - remember, we have to pay back billions of dollars for all the government spending.

Our 315 litre electric hot water unit is not far from carking it. Was going to go solar hot water. Does anybody have a rough estimate of % of a normal power bill the hot water unit uses ?

Have to pay for new power generation some how...
Seems the last 20 years... NO money has been spent on [power generation] infrastructure.. Now it's our fault and we have to pay for it.. Even more now with this carbon tax...My last power bill was $800 also..

That's what really gets me. A massive boom where the cash was pouring in. What the hell did they spend it on????

It's a problem with elected governments. Where is the incentive for them to think 20 years ahead. They're only interested in the next election.

I'm curious as to what you guys are running to get such high power bills, my split system runs all day and gets turned off at night, 2 fridges, 3pc's that run 24hours a day + ceiling fans and lights on all night. My power bill for the 1/4 barely nudges 350

Much the same here, except we have Noah's Airconditioner in our main bedroom. Surely it chews a bit of juice.
Noah's hot water service finally died a few months ago, since the new unit has been installed we've saved a fair bit. Was mounted in the roof, I reckon it must have nearly killed the landlord to actually spend some money. They had it repaired at least 5-6 times in 2 years.

Used to get up around $500-700 in the NT.

The in-laws used to get some seriously large bills (Also in the NT) especially during the build-up. Over Christmas they'd run 2 Airconditioners from 8am until 8pm, and then another 4 on during the night. Can easily top $2000 for the quarter.

Is it...damn. I think it's the air cond... I do like my comfort. I filled in the pool and built a media room over the top it, so it can't be that.

if you have off peak it should say on your power account the cost for your water heater, probably listed as "tariff 33" . "tariff 11" is your normal all day rate.

i just got my bill yesterday and my hot water was $105.49 for the quarter to run an old 250 litre heater. they dont give me any staff discounts either :

when you get a new water heater you should save a fair bit.

i`ve got a pool in the back yard that hardly ever gets used and it uses a heap of power to run too.
