its not a new fad.. its a late caught on fad... i think its lost its touch, much like flashmobs.

Its a great concept when new, but extremely boring once mainstream.

A bloke in Gladstone was charged with "Planking a police car!"

Meh, I have been planking my bed my whole life.

Now, if you want an awesome challenge, get a photo of yourself planking Megan Fox ftw. Otherwise, every other target is just lamo! lol

triple j have been talking about it for the last month or more. as of yesterday it 'jumped the shark'. apparently Kerrie Anne Kennelly opened her show by planking, so i think it might have lost its 'cool' factor

It really shows how 'simple' these people are.

To those that think it is harmless fun and they aren't doing any damage...... lets take the young bloke in Gladstone who did it on the cop car as the example. If it was your car he was lying on would you find it harmess fun.

I now understand how old I really am! I firstly had to Google the subject as i thought it was something to do with lengths of timber and once I discovered what it was all about, I desperately looked for one photo that made me at least smile. I just don't get it and didn't find it the slightest funny. I will say, it is better to see the young doing this rather than Tagging.

Well it's a simple concept, the places seem to just get more strange / extreme... like the one I was shown last night of three mates planking the scaffolding on the 80th story of a building they were working on.

Yep that's pretty much it.
If you can manage to have your legs and or upper torso and head unsupported then I think that qualifies as a "fully hektic plank"

Police fears realised after man dies in 'planking' incident
by Queensland Police Service on Sunday, May 15, 2011 at 2:38pm
Following a tragic death at Kangaroo Point in Brisbane this morning police are urging ‘plankers’ to re-think their actions.

“This morning we have seen a young man take this activity a step further and attempt to plank on a balcony.

Unfortunately he has tragically fallen to his death,” Deputy Commissioner Ross Barnett said.

“Police fear that as planking gains popularity there may be more injuries and potentially further deaths.”

Planking is a new recreational activity gaining popularity. Plankers lie flat on their stomach in different environments. They take photos of their efforts which are then shared amongst fellow plankers via social media.

Police are warning members of the public that planking may seem like a bit of light-hearted fun can quickly turn to tragedy if an accident occurs.

People are trying to out-do each other by planking on structures or in precarious positions putting themselves and others at risk. The potential for disaster increases as more and more risks are taken to get the ultimate photo.

“Earlier this week a man was charged after he trespassed on police property in order to plank across the back of a police car. If other people break the law during this activity they will be charged as well,” Deputy Commissioner Barnett said.

“Accepting a risk of injury for yourself is one thing, but the potential is there for others to be injured as a result of your behaviour.”

Plankers can be charged with a criminal offence if they attempt the activity in areas that constitute trespass or in dangerous locations.

Deputy Commissioner Barnett said police will not tolerate people putting lives at risk, whether their own or other innocent bystanders.

“But no penalty will ever return this young man to his family and friends. This is a tragedy and our condolences go to the family.”
