Red face Need some help choosing a topic

Hey Guys

I have to do a research paper on any topic. Its great that I can choose...but theres so much to choose from!

Has anyone got any good topics/ideas. Its only a 2500 word paper plus a 10 min presentation to the class - so i want something that wont send people to sleep.

Theres no real point to the paper, its purpose is to educate the class on whatever topic, so i dont have to argue a point or recommend anything - which seems pointless...but anyway.

So suggestions would be helpful - I have to choose something today as Ive only got 4 weeks left until my presentation.

The real key to any presentation and paper is to write about something you are fairly passionate about. If you are passionate you won't send your class mates to sleep :

So how about thinking about what you are extremely keen on, could be cars, motors (or particular engine things like mods), your club, music (or a particular singer or band etc), something that annoys you, health, weather, tv, real life shows blah blah blah. The list goes on and on really :

Good luck with whatever you decide

had similar assignment for uni this semester, was due last week, each group had to do a case study on a company & their challenges & management etc.

Given that it was a class full of mostly mechanical and robotic engineers most of us are into cars of some for or another, so we did Ford. Plenty of information out there, our report ended up well over our 4000 word limit and our presentation was about 25 mins (20 was the recommended aim for ours)

If i had to do it again, I'd do Ford again, so much to talk about (changes in Australian market over last few years, fuel prices, e-gas, hydrogen project with melb uni etc.)

Good luck

Something that wont put people to sleep, most people couldn't give a rats about cars, let alone Ford.

Perhaps a current issue that effects you and your class mates?

Stuff the cars, stuff Ford.

Do it on the turbine jet engine. Plenty of info, you can get diagrams going, you can talk about the history etc.

And besides, what if your assessor is a Holden fan.......

The impact that fuel prices have had on the large car market (decreased sales etc.) and what local companies are doing to counteract this (importing smaller cars, alternative fuels etc.)

This section of my assignment I mentioned earlier worked well because there were plenty of graphs we could put together to show the fuel price trends, and the car market trends over the last few years. Good eye candy for the audience, but relevant at the same time

Fuel prices will probably have had a big impact on your class mates whether they are into cars or not, most people drive and most students are poor to begin with :

Nudge, in a former life, as part of a promotion course I was required to give a 10 minute presentation. The topic was given to me, I had no choice, I had to give a presentation on the humble BRICK.
You will be suprised how much information is out there on the composition, make, design, lay of a brick.
Another course member had to research the toilet. That was interesting.

LOL exactly, make it left field, you will stand out more when it comes to marking aswell. It shows you can grab peoples attention with what usually would be mundane topics.

Hey Mrs Fantasy, your avatar, is it Photoshopped? I didn't realise Fantasy (I think thats the colours name) changed that much

This topic has a lot of merit. As part of your presentation you could use some road saftey ads from You Tube, that'll keep 'em awake.

You could also touch on other reasons why the road toll is getting lower, such as car safety improvemnts and drier than normal weather. If you come to the conclusion that these two points are true, then speed cameras are doing nothing other than generating revenue.
