Default MKII steering noise?

Hi all,

My MKII Escort is making some unattractive noises when i corner (actually when i turn the steering wheel), not always but fairly regulary. The noise is a sort of crunch/thud deeper sound and I can feel it feed back through the steering wheel.

Is this a common problem? Could it be the rack mount bushes or the rack itself, or perhaps something else.

Any help appreciated.
Thanks.

Adam.

Mine does something similar to this in the left, so far it has been traced to the springs turning building up pressure and then releasing it's load.

Theres a plastic bush inside each end of the rack that can break up & cause vibration when loaded up under cornering - could be that - had it go on my old RS2000. The more cornering load the worse the noise& vibration. Can be repaired - just means pulling the rack internals to bits....
