G'day,

So I've got a 1998 Model EL Falcon, I Know standard they have about 157kw (Straight)

Now, I'm gonna have about $1500 to spend on the car, I was going to go for a body kit, but I decided I'd rather give it some more poke instead.

I was just wondering, what would be some good mods to do that wouldnt break the bank, but still giving me some decent kilowatage.

Cold Air Intake? Cam? Exhaust? Headers?

help me out guys! My mates commodore is faster then my car, And that doesn't fly with me!

you just named the first few things i think most of us would do:
2 1/2 Inch Cat back
Paceys or Genies Extractors
Mild Cam
CAI
and maybe some diff gears?

Start with an exhaust and headers upgrade, with a cam or maybe some head work.

You could go the JMM option.

DEV "Street-Fighter" Headers (Extractors), Modified Cat, 2.5" Hi Performance mandrel bent exhaust system, Performance spark plugs & Ignition leads, Hi-Flow Intake Kit, Custom Dyno testing & tuning.

Nice up grade to Low & Mid Torque, about 120 rwkw, set you back $1590.

CAM, Extractors, Chip with dyno tune and that should do it for now.

You'd lose too much backpressure. 3" is good for turbo's.

EF Dave is selling RSPEC 3 cam, vernier gears ,heavy duty crane springs for $550 brand spanken new, then you just need some Extractors and with the change see if you can pick up a chip.

What would be some good diff gears? More on the acceleration side of things.

3.45 is about as far as you can go, if you want to just replace speedo gears to keep things correct.

If you use an electronic speedo corrector then go for what ya want, 4.11 is popular.

Thanks guys...This should give me some ideas on the way to go.

If you have any other mod ideas, sling them my way, even if they are out of my way.

yeah, but whether or not it has any effect is debateable. I mean it probably flows more than the standard one, but on most cars, even a dirty filter makes about half a kPa. most you could possibly get out of that is 1hp...

but togive you induction ideas, my car had 136rwhp with everything on, bonnet up, and 148rwhp with the ENTIRE intake off. maybe a shaker style scoop feeding a pod on the throttle body might make a big difference. and look cool.

Ah not trying to be a smarty pants but didn't you just condradict yourself? If you had the entire intake off then it would suck hot air in...

All the mods above are a good starting point indeed.

i had the bonnet up during both tests with all the dyno fans on flat out. some hot air would have got in, but nowhere near as much as if the bonnet was shut.
