Default Mk 5 Cortina Universal Joint replacement

Hi All

Forgive me if this has already been redressed multiple times already but i've tried my best to search a solution to this issue.

My MK5 has failed it's WOF inspection due to tired U Joints on the drive shaft. These are the factory fitted "staked/penged" U Joints. I've been told this is a specialist job that can only be carried by 2 businesses in New Zealand. One in the south Island and one in the north for a price that I can't afford.

Question is, I have some universals from Repco that appear to be held in place with a cir-clip on what appears to be on the inside of the Yoke, Not fixed as factory by a cap on the outside. Does anyone have any experience in changing out the factory fitted U Joints that can point me in the right direction for some info?

Thanks in advance

The staked ball joints can be replaced with the kits like THIS one.

This

is very similar to the joints I have from Repco. As far as I understand the ones that are held in place by a clip on the outside of the trunnion would require a groove for the clip to sit in? Since I will be replacing staked joints I'm left with the one option of the cir-clip type on the inside of the yoke?
