Default Vibration at high revs AU XR8 series 3

I have a violent vibration that occurs just before gear changes in mu AU XR8... Example, say im sitting on 60km/h and i put my foot flat, the car will kick down gears and speed off. Just before the next gear change, there will be a violent vibration throughout the car and it seems like it hesitates to change to the next gear. Car will retain smooth driving through the next gear. It seems to happen just before the gear change at high revs.

Im also getting a knocking/clunk when i slow down, mainly when the car gets back into first gear

Im thinking transmission. Its an AUTO... And it has a new harmonic balancer which didnt change anything.

Any suggestions?

Hey mate,
If it is any consolation my AU 1 Fairlane V8 has the same problem. I was told that it is due to the stronger gearbox in the V8's. But i think the Ford service department is blowing smoke up my a%$. I hope someone on here can shed some light on this problem.
Thanks Pete.

Check engine mount bolts, Bell housing bolts and transmission mount bolts.

Basically get underneath the car with a hand full of spanners & sockets and go to work.

Yeh its terrible isnt it mate! I went for a cruise in another AU XR8 and it does not have this problem, and funny, ford told me a similar thing. They said solenoids had been modified for harder shifts.... I know the difference between a hard shift and clunking lol

my au xr8 certainly does not do it. Would be interesting to see if a shift kit makes any difference.

Funny u say that, shift kit did improve it quite a bit, but after a few weeks while driving with it switched off, it seemed that the clunk got harder, so i may have done more damage : It didnt solve the problem regardless, just kinda made it more bearable for a while

I'd be checking the auto fluid levels, I know mine was doing similar things where it'd rev a bit freely between gear because there wasn't enough pressure in the box caused by low fluid. How long ago since it's been serviced / fluid checked?

Mine had a full transmission service about 15000km ago due to the fact that it was making strange sounds. It has done it since i bought it with 120000kms on the clock. I think the next step will be to a good auto transmission specialist. More $$$$ i think.
