Ive gotten myself into a new habit.... getting to sleep after work at 5am (normal) then waking up at 10.30am!!!!!! Anyone else get into some weird waking up patterns.

XRSIKS 21-04-2009 02:57 AM

yah, every damn hour on the hour i'll wake up, without fail..... go to bed at 9:00am, out of bed at 4:30pm, but awake every hour, for about 10-20 mins

iCat 21-04-2009 02:59 AM

i've being doing shift for ages, and my sleep patterns suck! nightshift is ok, that's sleep from about 9am-1pm. but my days off and avo shift, i'm stuck with 2-3am head to bed, up around 1030am. that's why dayshift kills me, just can't sleep at 10pm, its not right!

BlueKoop 21-04-2009 03:05 AM

I usualy get up at 11.15, and be at the gym at 12 (Btw the gym is gold in the middle of the day, hardly anyone there). Not gettin that 45 mins really hurts.

outside 21-04-2009 03:13 AM

sleep sux all round for me, too hard to brake the sleep patten of being awake at night.when im rostered off takes me two to three days to get a full nights sleep.
have tried to stay up after working the last night shift, but just find myself getting craby with the wife and kids from lack of sleep, and thats not good for them as its not their fault im shitty.

BlueKoop 21-04-2009 03:17 AM

Im lucky i only work 3 12 hour shifts a night Sun, Mon Tues. Then Wed Thurs Fri Sat nights for me I can swing to a pretty "Normal" Sleeping pattern. Nights must be hard having a family, my gf hates the 3 days she cant see me.

family and friends just do not understand what it is like to work shift. it is really so hard on the body and the mind. and when you are on nightshift, sleep is so fragile; people just don't get that if you are sleeping then you have won bloody lotto!

it is really hard on family and spouses and beloveds. as you say, not their fault we are shitty .....

outside 21-04-2009 03:27 AM

i normaly do 2 days then 2 night at 12 hours, but last weekend we had 1 guy off, so i worked 4 nights, wasnt to bad as it was easter and there was no one here, so got my head down for a bit, but had close to no sleep for the 2 days that i did have off before coming back to work again.

They've definitely put something in the water. I have had the same problem over the past few months as have other nightshifters at my work. Have no idea why it is happenning so I cant do much about it.

as a shift worker i find i am either working or not working - i have no idea what bluddy day it is!

and yeah, sigh, last night for me then 4 off, woo hoo!

BlueKoop 22-04-2009 01:19 AM

Same here back to work Sunday. So so so knackered tonight, the guy I work with is home sick.... now I actually have to pull my finger out.

XRSIKS 22-04-2009 07:13 AM

I was sick last night, getting the flu :(

Benefit of working in a confined space, with 2 people who are sick as dogs, who refuse to take time off when sick.... and make everyone else bloody sick.

I have 2 more nights, then 4 off, then another 2 on, then no more nights for me... but i will keep this thread alive :P i enjoy the conversation lol

us HSO4's are on a Rotating roster... when I started nights, we were supposed to do 2 months of them, then swap back to days....a guy busted his knee, i ended up doing his nights too... so i've been on nights for 4 months, NOW they have changed it to One month stints of nights, so, technically i have done 4 stints :P

No one likes doing nights, especially when we have bad consumers in, coz people then have to do work :P I give it 2 - 4 months on day shifts, then they will ask me to do nights again....

XRSIKS 22-04-2009 11:12 PM

ug, here i am again....anyone else? i wanted to have my XR8 by now, but oh well

outside 24-04-2009 11:56 AM

Lightning Strike XR6 24-04-2009 03:45 PM

HLC 28-04-2009 06:18 PM

i finally finished my stint of night shifts (last 4 weeks or something) glad to be back to the norm, but i do miss them.

XRSIKS 28-04-2009 06:33 PM

I'm supposed to be on 2 more, then thats it for a few months... working tonight / tomorrow night, have thursday night off, start Evening shift friday afternoon, so i have half a day off...

So im chucking a sickie on wednesday night... i need a day to get back to normal sleeping pattern.....

4 months of night shift... i shouldn't have to do them for a while, unless they get desperate for staff again.... cant say i havn't enjoyed the break from day shift ;) it's nice when the consumers sleep, they are awake all day :P makes it more busy lol

normally i sleep for about 5 hours on my day off, then i get up and do what ever i want.

hardly anyone at the shops, or do some work to the car.

then on my night off i am normally out on a cruise at like 1am and/or taking photos.

best thing about working night shift, is if you need soemthing done during the day while the shops are open you can. while most people have to wait till the weekend.

HLC 28-04-2009 07:28 PM

yeah when i would be working a row of nights, id come home and go to bed, 6.30ish, then get up mid arvo-late arvo, 3-5ish, then do whatever, if i need to go to the shops, get up earlier.

on my last night i just go home and stay up for as long as possible til my body shuts down and i fall asleep somewhere. usually in a car or public transport or a pub/club if its a friday night LOL

outside 28-04-2009 07:32 PM

should be at work tonight but the wife's not feeling the best and has been in bed all day.
someone needs to look after the kids.

Rofl, last week friday morning, i got home, sat up for as long as i could, ended up falling asleep at 11:00am, woke up at 1:00pm.... was trying to organise finance for my new car wich if ya read the other threads, i should pick up on thursday, but yeah man, i've parked at traffic lights waiting for them to turn green, and woke up with someone honking at me coz the lights changed :P

I've never fallen asleep while driving..... just that cat nap :P

Mr Hardware 29-04-2009 04:20 AM

Well once again i join the ranks of nighshift
however it's not so much roses for me, i've been on the clock for 17 hours now, and i'm gonna be for another hour or so more...
yeah, i'm not going to work tomorrow

or should i say, today.

XRSIKS 29-04-2009 04:31 AM
