I work all sorts of odd hours most of the time waiting for computers to do something, so whilst not really night shift it's close. Oh how I long for a steady night/day/any shift job ;-)... well the grass is always greener, and all that. |

Not so much a night shifty, but 3 out of 5 days a week I work till past 12.30. Which is why alot of my posts come in way into the AM.
|
My night off today due to public holiday, I do night shift every 2nd week 7pm to 7.15am.
|
I never touch a computer when on day shift, usualy too many staff sitting around doing nothing while i do all the dirty work, yes, dirty work.
Night shift is a good break from the hectic day to day running of a Mental Health Rehab Facility |
Yeah im workin tonight through the public holiday... but meh I only work 3 nights a week lol. I love nights, never have to rush to work with everyone else. And leaves heaps of time durin the day to sleep in. go to the gym, get to the shops. Been doing nights for about 7-8 years.
|
Public holiday? what's a public holiday? Rotating roster, just depends on luck to if i get to have the day off, or should i say, to work the public holiday :D

Been doing Nightshift for about a year now, shifts ranging from: Sun-Wed and starting either 8pm, 10pm or Midnight till 6am.. Thur, Fri, Sat off :D
Cant complain really, dont have to wake up early mornings to go work (especially in winter), no traffic to deal with, and can do whatever you want during the day :) |

done nightshift before
never again. Not even for $100k. It's cool for the first month. Seeing another side of the world. After that you start realising all the things that catch up on you 1. Your sleep patterns are shot. 2. Trying to go to bed when the sun is up is awful 3. Yep, you can light and temperature control a room, but you can't really sound control it. All it takes is one mowing/chainsawing neighbour at midday (your midnight) to destroy any poor sleep you were going to have 4. With the bad sleeps and the unnatural awake at nighttime, your mental health suffers terribly. You start making mistakes and thinking a few funny things. It's harder to keep yourself together. 5. Your social life goes down the toilet. Only adding to the degradation of your mental health. I'm sure there's people that love/thrive on nightshift. All i'm saying is it most certainly isn't for everyone, me included. Congrats to those who do and suffer no ill-effects, but let this be a warning for those who are new to it or intend to do it, do not make the decision lightly. No the extra 15% loading isn't worth it. btw 9-5 mon-fri office drone here. There's a reason why 90% of people work this way. |
love my night shifts ,but i play with big tonka toys so its good .4-2-4-6 for me wouldn't have it any other way.
but no laptop will work in the pits ,might be a little wild trying to drive and surf ! |
I always work the midnight to 7:30 or 8ish shifts, usually over the weekends (meant to be 3 shifts a week) but lately been doing between 5 or 6 shifts a week. Which is kinda hard when you come home desperately wanting to sleep but have an 8mth old that just seriously wants to play with mum
Sleep is overrated (apparently) :ZZZsleep: |
