Ford Focus transmission dilemma
I have a 2006 Ford Focus that I just paid $1800 to have the drive shafts replaced only to drive it out of the repair shop still making a terrible noise and then be told the transmission has had it. Being quoted between $3,000-$6000 for repair, more than car is worth, so I'm trying to work out is it worth trying to sell as is? Would there be someone interested in buying who could/would want to do the transmission work themselves do you think? The engine is in good condition, (and new drive shafts!) Body work good condition. Only a month left on rego. Or do I resign myself to a couple of hundred dollars for the wreckers to collect???

How many
Kms? |
Re: Ford Focus transmission dilemma
$1800 for drive shafts?, you need to find a cheaper mechanic, drive shafts come in at about $300, so $1500 for labour seems a bit steep.

What location, what does the car owe you?

It's done 132,000kms. Melbourne-based.
Yes, sounds like I was shafted on the drive shafts! |
Re: Ford Focus transmission dilemma
Assuming it’s the petrol, four speed automatic - should be a good prospect for a DIY’er if you’re inclined to cut your losses. Used gearboxes seem around $600-up, quite a bit less at the self serve yards.
