Default 2011 Focus Trend v 2012 Focus Sport

Hey guys,

Need some opinions. Looking at buying a new car in the 24-28k range and just test drove a 2011 plated ford focus trend. Was offered $25k driveaway. Pretty happy with the drive, found it to be lacking power low down but was told it's because of the way they have designed the new gear box.

I was also offered one of the new 2012 focus sports that are coming in to the dealership in the next two weeks for $30k driveaway.

Extremely tempted by the extra features of the sport (Inc sat nav) but suspect the Trend is the better deal. Is there much room to move on these prices? Could the sport come down to $28k?

Any advice guys? I suspect the 2012 Sport will actually be a 2011 build. Do you think this will mean I can negotiate down towards $28k?

I think the Trend has alot of features with it already, especially when you add the Convenience Pack (pretty sure it's only an extra $300) - which includes; auto headlights, auto wipers, follow me home lights, auto dimming rear view mirror.
If you're opting for the Sport model, i think you could definitely pick one up for $28k, especially that the 2012 builds are starting to come in. You should be able to get a good deal on the 2011 builds with the sat nav.

we originally ordered a 2012 plated focus sports and was quoted 30k drive away too.
They stated this is the best they could do with the factory bonus, so don't think there is much room to move. Especially since they are selling well.

In theory I should be able to get them to budge a bit from that price as it is 2011 build though, yeah?

yeah definitely. Well there is a $500 premium from the MY11 to the MY12 focus. You may be able to get more if you shop around

wow.. i got my Trend for 26.5k drive-away, but that was 3 months ago. I think you could get a MY11 Sport for about 29k (or a bit lower), just check Car Sales for comparison. would have gotten myself a Sport but it was pushing 30k back then (without the Sat-Nav). the convenience pack would have been good, but be prepared for a long wait as the 'normal spec' would not have it and you would need to order it and it would take a good few months.

... if you could the price to sub-29k, i would suggest get the Sport as the add ons are actually quite good (with or w/o the Sat Nav). But if it's topping out closer to 30k, probably the Trend will give you a bang for your buck.

Ended up getting a pretty good deal. Under 28k on a Sport already in the country (2011 build 2012 compliance). Hatch model will have it in my hands next week!

Thanks for the help guys, sure I'm going to love it.

P.S. What are your opinions on Standard or Euro plates? Do the Euro's look good on the LW Focus? Has anyone got any pics of standard and/or euro?

Also... If I get standard does slimline fit better on the car?

That is a GREAT price, congratulations.
Looks like you will be getting your car before me, even though I ordered mine in November, lmao

A definite great deal to get it sub-28k, the equipment extras are worth the extra few k's. Would've done so if I had the option back then. Post up pics when you have a chance!

Absolutely will do :-)

I'm doing my own detailing/paint protection but will put up a shot when I pick her up! Pretty excited, I've been researching for about 12mths.

Anyone got any tips on where I should go and break her in? I'm in Melbourne btw.

I never really broke my car in, didn't think it was necessary for modern cars. But Black Spur is indeed tempting

My new 2012 Ford Focus Sport!
http://flic.kr/p/brDAvt

Absolutely in love with the car. Drove down to Sorrento and back (I live in inner Melbourne south eastern suburbs) the day I picked it up. Excellent drive, very comfortable in the sports V-seats. Will post up more pics next week (heading off to Tassie for the weekend, unfortunately the new beast has to stay in Melb)

Planning to do a Black Spur run when I get back!

We are finding the seats really comfy too. If you go up over the spur, turn it into a nice day trip and go up to Eildon. Come back via the Melba Highway. It's a nice round trip.

Hi all,

I just picked up my Candy Red Sport Hatch last week. Loving the car and the way it drives, the only thing that didn't arrive in the car was the new 5" screen with Sat Nav which was stipulated in my contract of Sale, only got the 4.2" screen. Back to the dealership today to make sure they order and fit it.

Also paid 29k on-road.

That's what I paid for my MK 1 in 2003!. Congrats on your new ride.

27k for a Sport... now that's cheap!

Manual or Auto 747jet?

If its 27k for PowerShift, then that's a fantastic price. But manual, that's about right. Congrats on the new purchase!
