thankfully when going to a link on FB it only lasts so long till it requests to join or log in.
Thank christ that lasted just minutes, hence my mantra never to bother with SM whatsoever but for this forum and 1 other I frequent re sport, I see enough crap that gets my goat enough as it is.
Don't know how some of you spend time on other SM - like being in a padded cell and reading crazy inmates looney tunes.

Hate to say, no different to forums at times, comes down to your interests and what you want to see, digital media sure has its highs & lows.

Not quite true; AFF doesn’t exist to harvest your data and sell it to the world.

The only attractions I see of social media are: 1. Putting a name and face to the fellow who raped my father as a seven year old in order for my plans to progress, and 2. Buying car parts from backyard wreckers.

I have ZERO interest in reuniting with classmates, joining hobby groups, discussing world affairs etc etc.

Sorry to say, does not matter if forums don't harvest data, your internet browsers whether by PC, phone, tablets ect is actually harvesting your data every time you use these devices.
What you got to realise every time you purchase these devices you willingly agree to their terms & conditions to use them.
You are being watched & tracked every day when using them.

AI as it comes to the consumer market is pretty darned stupid IMO. You buy something online and thereafter get adverts for near identical products. If tech really had a grip on my mind/habits, I’d receive promotional messages about stuff where there lay potential to upsell.

Moreover, as it is essentially the avowed purpose of Messrs Zuckerberg and Pichai to pry and peep, to grasp and hoard - I consider them morally blemished. There is the old notion that if a fruit tree hung its fruit over the fence, people should not pluck it, however if fruits did fall it was upon society to leave them for the “poor and unfortunate”. Not to vigorously shake the overhanging boughs such that they gave up their bounty - and then take this “windfall gain” to market.

Besides forums such as this are hardly ott toxic that’s for sure - this place is well managed it’ll do me.
Always an excuse re SM what you view or not but you see the crap in the first place.
Thankfully here it’s a minnow full stop.

Using this Chrome based laptop, I can either sign in (apparently for the full experience) or not like I do most of the time.

Poor thing has a fit every time I type a big box store in and it wants to know my location. Cancel, location and you would think it could tell from the IP address currently being used, but no this thing thinks I'm in Melbourne sometimes or $ydney or Canberra.
I've noticed since doing house sits (using their IP addresses) or using a mobile broadband device it gets easily confused.

Funniest thing is when first opening Youtube, no recommended videos are displayed, just a blank page which states "Type in to see what is new for you"

As for advertising seems they all think I want to buy an Electric car given I'm mainly viewing old truck restoration clips.

My poor phone is equally confused as the all background running apps are turned off along with the location.

Its because most ISPs are now using CGNAT so they have enough IP addresses to go round. Those IP addresses are issued from a centralised pool which bears no geographic relationship to the person behind that IP address. Biggest issue I've noticed is with Aus streaming apps, giving you the wrong state's broadcast, etc.

Had a plumbing emergency last night about 8pm for a banked up shower toilet in my sons unit he's renting out while away for 12 months.
The tenants are "we can't shower and can't go to the toilet".
Contacted, or tried to, 5 different plumbers, all advertising 24/7 emergency services.
No answer.

Had that problem while back, did not bother with a plumber as I tried to plunge the sewer pipe in back yard as it was blocked, no luck. Rang the water authority about the issue and they came out & checked, the problem was rectified 4 hours later after one of the maintenance teams had to clear the street main sewer pipe of a huge fat ball that accumulated over time, apparently it is a common problem they get all the time with people dumping all sorts of nasties down the drains.

Why is it...
When I need to leave the office early ( to be home early ) the police decide today is the day we set up drug/alcohol testing during peak hour on the main road?
They were set up well off the road (a place created for Uturns pull-ins) so the flow could have been unaffected, but here we need to go past at 25kmh.

My 30 minute drive took an hour.
Theres that 30 minutes I was needing.

I was the first car waved on after several in front were pulled out the congestion.
It would have been even longer getting home, but I was a little upset I didnt get a chance to tell someone about the chaos they've created for the previous 5kms
