Ever notice how many of them have some form of higher education, however pointless those qualifications are?

Because the adage that "ignorace is bliss" holds true.

Imagine if you had sought knowledge of all the issues with your Ford before purchasing it, you would have probably end up not buying it and missed out on all the enjoyment

I’m calling a lean misfire, workmate reckons ignition (spark shorting through plug tubes). My reckoning is based on lack of soot to the plugs.

A misfire due to ignition problems wouldn’t generally show consistent plug colours. :p

People going the scan tool route would also pop in a new oxygen sensor to eliminate error there - never mind it’s another $160+ for the customer to fund their lack of confidence in first principles diagnosis.

They would have been chosen (a few months ago) based on a current service data lookup; that’s no guarantee the vehicle manufacturer would spec the same. I’d say a little too much nickel paste, possibly the old ones were a bit hard to remove and they saw it as preemptive maintenance. We’ve had a pretty good run with Brisk brand plugs.

I'd be checking the manufacturers specs for the spark plugs, but the insulators on those look pretty crusty too.

Brand-wise, theres nothing wrong with Denso/Nippon Denso, but I'm a diehard NGK guy for anything automotive, though for small engines I will also resort to Bosch & Champion if I need to.

Never heard of Brisk, but I'm not about to take the punt either considering how much of a headache cheap plugs can cause

Why is it almost impossible to find a spray on deodorant? Just about everything is a spray on is an antiperspirant.

A brief follow-up on the “Why is it (stumbling)?”

Coils and leads replaced, the stutter went. After three hard pulls uphill quickly in a row, it was clear that fuel pressure was sagging, as acceleration tapered off noticeably.

Car went back to the owner for the Easter holidays, as it’s safe to drive excepting when you unnecessarily bury the pedal. Fuel issues to be pursued thereafter.

For the record, Brisk plugs are a Czech made brand from the Soviet era. The scale of importing is much less than NGK, and we deal more directly (thus cheaply) as a result. Their packaging is more robust than Bosch plugs, which can arrive with packets quite bruised.

Similar to a company I buy from asking for a review on a $0.50 rubber o-ring or $2.00 length of hose. What am I supposed to say to that?

It’s nearly sixty years since the disastrous Apollo spacecraft oxygen fire that claimed three astronauts. As many are aware, the fire started when a 50¢ Chinese o-ring NASA purchased from eBay, failed prematurely. That’s a terrible way to learn a lesson about quality. So - if you’ve a rocket in your pocket, don’t risk an early explosion by choosing cheap rubber. Ringman brand o-rings are your guarantee of the finest manufacturing, and I can personally vouch for them as a ticket to landing safely, middle of the Pacific Ocean.
