Judd did support the Demons as a kid.

He wont be going to Essendon.

Judd wore number 3 on his back, as a kid, because of his idol Garry Lyon who wore 3. Lyon is also one of the people in the Melbourne group interviewing Judd.

Nights was a gritty little bugger, had his head split open in his last ever match and finished off looking like frankenstein. Good luck to him and his staff. Got to freshen up midfield!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Down back things are getting a little outdated too.

How can you say things are dated down back? Dustin Fletcher is one of the best in the comp and Mal Michael has only been there a year.

What's Sportsbet's odds for the 1st coach to be sacked in 2008?
Methinks Knights would be unbackable!....
Really, the Essendon board need their collective heads read after first, the Sheedy debacle, and now this appointment of a struggling VFL coach!

They have the EGM on Oct 2 so it will be interesting to see what happens then.

As a life long Bombers fan I can only say ..............WTF???????????????????

No offence to Mathew however, Essendon is one of the most financially successfully clubs in the competition with a excellent on field success rate in an era when many clubs are strugglnig to pay the bills. Can someone please explain why we do not have the most talented and tried coaches in the game knocking on our doors for a gig?????? We should have been able to attract the very best, easily.

Instead we go for an untried seniors caoch with dubious success in the minor leagues? YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As sad as Fremantle may still be, prior to Connolly's arrival, they were a disgraceful rabble that would have made the VFL clubs look like billion dollar enterprises.

Connolly truly brought the club into the 21st century. Prior, they were equal with the Kangaroos in overall caca-ness. Connolly became a face for that club and did a good job in promoting it.

Neesham and Drum in comparison had no idea.

Fremantle owes a lot to Connolly.

So rather than make a mockery of what I say, reflect on it then tell me I am a fool.

The fact is knights is now the coach i dont think whinging about it is going to change anything i am a little skeptical as to how he will perform at an A.F.L level but we have no chocie but to give him a chance..
if people are that dissapointed write a letter to the essendon board of directors and give them your opinion im and maybe they will sack him just because you dont like him...

They're hoping lightning 'll strike twice Sheedy was untried as a coach... wasn't he???
I was sad to hear sheedy was going and was hoping for bomber thompson or mark harvey to take the helm. I liked watching hardwick play and it would have been interesting to see him coach. We'll just have to wait and see how it works out...

Interesting move, hopefully it reaps reward. Didnt Chris Connoly play at Melb? or Hawthorn? Memory isnt what it was but seems right, anyone?

How about one of the moderators correct the thread title for this thread, to give the correct spelling for the guy! Just out of courtesy!

Connolly played at Melbourne in the late 80s, but had a bad run with injuries.

i too am a essendon supporter and frankly the reason we dont have coaches knocking on the door is because the list is shi*t. i love kevin sheedy always have, but it was time to go for him sorry. youth development has been poor and the recuriting department has rooted this list for the next 5 years. yes i am essendon supporter and you make think this is harsh, but its the truth really. sheedy had his favourites and unfortunately his emotions got in the way when players should have been delisted.

essendon started at 18 candidates for the job, and weere slowly worked down to 8, 6, 4, hardwick and knights.

interesting quote from gary lyon on last weeks footy show where he said that when hardwick delivered his presentation he assessment was that it would take a couple of years to play finals. knights said we would play finals next year. i wonder if this influenced the decision?
