As I live in London at the moment and work with Ford nutters I will ask for you.I would think they were around 'cause Escorts were, and are, popular cars over here.

Yes there were Mk 4 & Mk 5 escorts with auto boxes...unfortunately the fwd auto boxes weren't much good.
I did lots of repairs to these and also the 4/5 speed manual boxes Cheers Engine Guy |

Escorts from around 1991 and later were FWD.
Some escort cosworths were AWD (Mk6's) Mk3, Mk4, Mk5, Mk 6 Wish I brought a 2 litre, 750 bhp AWD Escort Cosworth with me when I came to Aus... Cheers Engine Guy |

Most Escort Cosworths were actually FWD... AWD were added at a later date
you'll probably find that the one's that 'survived' will be AWD. The Auto gearboxes fitted to 'non cosworth' escorts were always having problems... I say that, because I owned a garage / workshop in the UK from around 1980 - 2002 Cheers Engine Guy |

I asked a few of the boys at work and they said that they were made in auto but not very popular and not very nice to drive. If you want to check them out maybe look at autotrader.co.uk or other sites over here, and look how cheap the second hand cars are!

Yeah, cars are cheap in the UK... when I think back to when I had my business there, I turned down some good deals... would be great to have a escort cosworth here...especially when it's 750 bhp!
Another good thing was, no stamp duty on car purchases! however there was a requirement for a yearly MOT now that's a good thing! Cheers Engine Guy |
