Remote keys...

Hey guys

I've just emigrated over here from the UK and am now the proud owner of an AUIII Futura. All in all, I've been really pleased with what great value the AU is, but there's one thing I've found odd...

Since the late 1990's, Ford in the UK have been using an integrated key/remote (see attached pic). I assume that the Focus sold here use this setup and was curious if anyone knew why it isn't used on the Aussie built cars.

I was thinking about getting hold of one of the integrated keys from eBay and using it on my Futura. The remote and immobiliser training procedure seems to be the same as that for my AU - anyone know if it'd work?

I'm also installing a Parrot CK3100 Bluetooth handsfree tomorrow - will post pics if anyone is interested.

They do use it on aussie cars... god forbid I mention it's name in this forum.. the commodores have them. I prefer having a seperate remote. Don't know why, just do. Keeps a key a key and a remote a remote I guess.

I'll only care when Ford finally do the European trick and move the ignition off the steering column, put in a starter switch on the gear knob, and have a swipe card or plastic flat key (like the ones for security centers). For that reason, and that reason only will I update from my AU. lol.

cost of replacing battery in intergrated key design...$not possible.

cost of replacing whole fob $35
cost of replacing intergrated key design... $150

Sums it up I think. Simply too expensive to replace.

As I've posted elsewhere, I haven't been able to get a BA remote to function on an AU, so I suspect you have little chance of getting a key for another Ford to work. Give it a go, though!

Welcome Samson to OZ and the Forums I doubt you will get the European style key to work as the AU Key has a chip in it that works with the on board computer and I expect is set to a different frequency.

As the other blokes have said, it's a bit easier the way Ford has them (personal opinion). Just lucky you didn't buy a late model Subaru WRX. If you lose the Key or want another cut, you are looking at $400.00 all up :O

The batteries are replaceable in Fords intergrated fobs.
