About this British tourist!

On the F3 here in NSW in the 100km/h dry weather zone (Jolls bridge area), a crash involving 6 vehicles yesterday. A common thing when we bunch up traffic as we do, anyhow, this bloke feared his car was going to catch fire.

So, he did the right thing and evacuated from it, and being the well trained sod he is decided to take refuge behind jersey barrier 'just in case'.

So, he lept up and over it.

All well and good, except . .

That behind this portion of barrier is a 30 metre drop to bushland below!

He was airlifted out suffering severe leg compound fractures!!

Another at about the same spot a few years back in moderate fog. Car breaksdown and stops, bloke had just seen 'lights' of houses 'some distance away' before coming to a rest in the emergency shoulder.

Bloke thought he'd walk over to them to raise help, so jumps over the barrier in the drifting fog only to land on the rocks and shrubs 10 or so metres below.

The next day an RTA staffer inspecting the bridge found his wounded body, he was immobilised. Rescued, he too was thankful.

Should I now install 'pedestrian like' fencing to stop these souls jumping, such that we have on the Mooney Mooney bridge?

How about people get a clue and actually look at where they are going to land BEFORE they jump?
You talk about a "dumbed down" Australia and then tossers like this actually do dumb things that suddenly need to be legistated to stop.

Its fools like this that are responsible for things like potato chip packets having opening instructions and disposal instructions printed on them. FFS, if your too stupid to work it out.... you shouldnt be alive.

(anyone see cops the other night??? the "perp" decided to jump this wall to get away.....tool didnt realise there was a 10 - 15 meter drop to the train tracks below....2 busted legs, head injuries etc... LOL ) :SaiyanSmi

Sydney people seem to have a problem with jumping over ledges. Got to admire them for attempting to do the right thing. Barries are a good idea.

Keepleft, as well as the hazard warning triangle you'll have to lobby for the mandatory carrying of parachutes in all cars.

Imagine if someone did drop off that big sucker of a bridge because even on the best of days it can be up in the clouds and fog and a tourist just wouldn't know otherwise. Thats a big drop if he was to jump the mooney mooney bridge, that is a long long way down to the bottom on that baby.

Is that the bridge between Sydney and Newcastle down the bottom of steep grades with a viewing platform turn-off as well? If it is, THAT would be a nasty fall, good view on the way down though!

why should we protect the unprotectable, if they have such a mission to kill them self's by not using common sence then that is their own issue, its not hard to look before u jump 98% will do it why should we waste more hard earnt $$ on the 2% that dont.
