Default my ABS and traction control light

hey guys

recently while just driving sedatly or just for no reason what so ever (even sitting still) the traction control and ABS lights on the dash come on and stay on for a while then turn off again when they feel like it..

what does it mean?

im thinkin it MAY be a loose connection but what else could it be?

thanks guys

same problem with mine, low-speed braking applications (especially in carparks) seem to enable my abs light? its really starting to worry me. Also only seems to happen after maybe a hard brake earlier in the day (hard brake but not enabling ABS at that time)

ive only had ABS kick in 3 times since ive had the car

twice on a very slippery wet roundabout(was semi on purpose as i had only just got the car and figured why not(was pre entry with no 1 else around) as id never had an ABS car before

and the 3rd time i hit a large divit and the car got all light and i braked as a corner was comming up and it kicked in

but yeah i dunno what it is
still stops fine

mine did that some time ago. get under the car and clean up the abs sensors.... they're easy enough to locate. you'll find especially on the fronts they build up muck and metal shavings from the discs. they are essentially magnets and need to be relatively clean to be able to mark the rotors off the wheels. that will fix it 80% of the time.

if cleaning it up doesn't work you may be having some issues with the abs modulator. that can be checked with the ford resting equipment in a cuple of minutes. but don't stress too much, if the loights are on that just means youer traction control and abs aren't functioning. the brakes will still work fine, they'll just lock up if yoiu hit them too hard......... same as a pre-abs equiped unit.

Three posibilities:

1. The ECU on the ABS unit has an intermittent fault
2. There is a poor wiring connection somwhere in the circuit
3. One of the wheel speed sensors is faulty

mine is a fairlane ghia and is the I6 and has Traction control standard *cry*
id much rather an LSD!!
was so much nicer to drive my old ZL fairlane with LSD over the traction control
especially when trying to accelerate hard into traffic from a stand still .. slight bit of slip and the traction control kicked in and made for a few close calls..

but the LSD just GOES with a lil bit of *** sideways action
