Default Exhaust Sounds

alright

was at work the other day and saw a blue xr8 ute pass me by...

anyway the sticker on the rear window was "I love the sound of a ute"

and so i focused on its exhaust as he took off

and it sounded wikked... so yeh I do love the sound of a ute (especially that one)

it didn't sound like a blap blap blap like some dodgy cannon exhausts, but it was a broom broom broom with a deep grumble (can u imagine it?)

its like on those ford ads, *do you reckon we should give them a lift.... no way man!, they're dogs* yehh that one

and u hear the ute drive off

thats the sound im after for me ef, what do I ask for?

is there any special thing for this or it just for xr8's?

ta

Extractors with a twin system with hot dogs is the best system I've heard on an e-series... Sounds mean like a mildy worked 8 IMO.

Should be around the $1K-$1100 mark + fitting for some decent gear...

the "special thing" to make that sound is a V8 engine......

Engine swap.

Seriously, a six is a six. Well, I spose that's not quite right, because an engine note can differ depending on configuration (I6 vs V6), or firing order (LS1 vs 304) etc etc

The closest you might get, and this is a guess:

VERY lumpy cam
2 x 3-->1 extractors
2 x cats (let's keep the EPA happy)
Twin 2.25" exhausts to the rear, with single mufflers (hotdogs? deep offset?), unsure about requiring a crosspipe (H or X) or not...

It'd probably sound like a pig V8 on "idle" (if you could call it an "idle" with a crazy cam) and at low revs, but it'd probably sound like a psycho six above that.

Expect to spend $$$ on that setup (over $1000, even if cats-back is just mild steel)

Ain't nothin wrong with that sound.... think Walky's car in the 4-5.5k rev range, flying past in 3rd gear...

Throw in a V8 if you want that V8 sound.

Sorry, I didn't mean that in a derogatory way, I meant it'd sound like a six, like I said

I loved the sound of my 3.3L XE when it was climing up the Darlimurla hill doing 70 in 2nd *just* before it started to ping... Zero performance, but holy damn I loved the noise!

Nesa-EF stated he's after a V8 sound.

BTW one of my favourite engine notes I've ever heard came from a twin-carb FE or FC grey six ;)

An exhaust on a V8 will cost similar ;) That's if you opt for a twin or semi-twin setup.

Mine is semi-twin (joining before the diff) and it set me back $1100.

The only files I have are kind of "contaminated" with wheelspin...

Also keep in mind that I've got a 5.0 (I'm assuming you were thinking I had an I6 with the exhaust setup I mentioned)

Sorry about the slow reply, but I'm back home again now (where the files are).

I've taken a look on the comp & I've only got one mp3, the rest are movies from a video phone, plus a vid or two from my camera. Quite large in size, and I'm on 56k so I can't really be bothered waiting the 1-2 hours to upload. Just drop me a PM if you want the mp3 (via email), which is about 300kb.

There's a thread floating around in the Windsor section I think with peoples' exhaust notes if you want to hear a wheezer on song ;) Do a search on it mate.

Ask Dan (Walkinshaw)
Sweetest sounding Ford 6 I've heard, just infront of Pully's.
