Darren Morgan in the Wicked Quick Fueller, up against old team mate Phil Lamattina, Morgan not having much luck so far this weekend and wants, needs, has to have a good pass but once again its not to be, and oh my God Lamattina is on a march, the chassis has broken in half and it went into a massive power wheel stand, the flames are everywhere bits of the car is still rolling down the quarter and this is the most massive top Fuel accident we have seen here at the bank in a long long time. This is very very nasty. Phil Lamattina is okay and in the ambulance for observation, it goes to show the strength of the top fuel cockpits after he can survive one of the most horrific accidents seen here at the Bank. After some thorough checking out by the ambulance attendants Phil Lamattina is brought down the side of the track in a golf buggy by Track Manager Steve Bettes he is off to hospital to get thoroughly checked out but once again we say he is okay.

whoa mate, that was freaky. i just saw it on the news..

the sound of a drag car smashing is so loud its almost thunder claps. we were right in front of john trinders crash at wsid earlier this year.

shows how good the safety systems in place for race/drag cars is.

just found a link to the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rik5MtDYLhA He is a very lucky man to walk away from that with not much more then a chiped tooth. hope he is back on the track soon

first times are from the side by side record speed pass with Martin Stamatis.
then the other times are from the crash so that car was on a mission. :

was a great day at the drags on saturday

thank god he had a good result from that, goes to show how safe they really are

it could have been alot worse if the other guy didn't get bad tyre shake and shut his off

Seen that happen a few times on topfuel cars. Freakish lucky!! That blower in Lamattina's vid sounded nuts at the end!! You watch these topfuellers under slow-mo and there's so much stress on the middle of the chassis.

Fuel cars shake the welds around a lot - to run at the sharp end, a new car is "unsafe" after 1 season. After 1 seaqson, a run with a lot of clutch AND traction will break a car in half.

Most fuel car deaths are caused by the dragster or F/C rolling on the concrete wall. If it stays inside the concrete, a 300mph crash is easy to survive, even in a massive rollover.

A rollover at 100mph where it mounts and rolls on the concrete barrier can have a different outcome.
