Default Does anyone know how to copy music OFF an Ipod onto the computer?

Hey all,

Just wondering if any FF member know of a way to get music off your Ipod and back onto the computer. Our old 'music' Mac has bitten the dust and I wanted to see if it was possible to get the music off the iPod onto the other Mac, before I had a look at paying for fully fledged data retrieval on the old Mac.

Any help GREATLY appreciated!

Cheers, Rob.

iPodRip. Google it. You can only use it 3 times before you have to pay for it I think

you can look in the folders in the drive the iPod is on and get them, granted they will be filenamed as four random letters.

double click on the iPod in My Computer, go to tools, folder options, view and check "show hidden files and folders". then double click on iPod Control, Music, and there should be heaps of folders marked F with a number next to them. you can copy all your music from them.

if you are lucky enough the information should still be on them with regards to song title, artist and album title. otherwise, good luck remembering all of it. but thats how i transferred my music from my previous iPod to my latest one since i didn't have everything backed up.

good luck.

edit: bugger looked properly and saw you were using a mac. not entirely sure, what to do there. if you were running windows in parallel it would work. not sure if the same procedure applies, but it might.

Most of those programs are for Windows so won't work on the Mac..

Have a look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compari..._iPod_Managers

There are a number listed for OS X that can extract music. Haven't had any experience with any though.

iTunes wont let you copy music off your iPod, hence the root of my problem!

There's a plugin for winamp that apparently does it, can't remember what its called though, you could check out www.winamp.com and search plugins for iPod though.

Weve got two iPods that we hook up to the PC and Macs, just tried my 2Gig on the PC doing what you said, and the music is there!

if you open you're ipod in "my computer"

click on "tools" on the top near "file" button then go to "folder options"

it will open a new window click on "view" tab

then click on the folder marked as "hidden files and folders"

then click on "show hidden files and folders"

close that box and then click on faded folder marked as "iPod_Control"

and then on the folder mafked "music"

and it will come up with a bunch of folders marked " F00 and F02" and so on

open them and music will be named in random letters dont worrie duble click and it will open in iTunes and the song in its full name

this took me 2 years to find out

I see the files as having random names, but the artists name is listed next to each file. Regardless you have the ID3 tags, once opened in iTunes etc, its all good.

Finding the hidden music folders on the iPod worked a treat, all the songs are on the PC now. Thanks for everyone's help!

Yeh senuti is a separate program that allows you to 'rip' from your ipod.
