Default Flash Tune XR8 AUIII

Got a flash tune recently for my XR8.... 155rwk up to 187rwk. Car runs much much smoother, its a joy to drive! fuel economy is pretty much the same. I usually get 450-500km a tank. Just thought i'd put the numbers up to see what u all thought.

Is that just a tune or other mods too? Either way its a fantastic result, well done.

As above, good result.
155 before tune was a bit low. Is your car man or auto?

Sounds like another XR8 that had a shocking factory tune.

Nice results, who did the tuning?

it's got a 2.5 inch exhaust, and the air intake has been removed.... a hole cut into the bottom of the box with a 3 inch piece of pipe running to a grill behind the front bar, and a k&n filter. All mods except for the filter were done by the bloke that owned the car before me. With the dodgey mods the car prob did run worse, fuel to air ratio before the tune was 18 to 1. Before the tune i'd taken it to the creek, and with all my stereo in there it ran 15.01. i even weighed it and it was bang on 1700kg. Am keen to see how it goes now out there.

Yeah i'd be happy with that... just enough grunt to keep me entertained around the street, without getting into too much strife. But like everyone, i'll prob soon be fishing around for the next performance enhancement!!!

Decent plugs, MSD leads and MSD coil packs. Then a new intake pipe, some headers, 100-200cpsi metalcats and some 3.9 diff gears should do the trick!

What would somethin like those additions cost?? And what kinda improvement would i expect?? Are the factory headers that bad? I've asked a few places that do exhausts and they told me aftermarket headers on my particular car werent worth the money????

Headers are a worthwhile investment for these.

I reckon they are more than worth the money. PH4001's is what you need.

We are talking an investment that will compliment pretty much eny engine mod that you care to do down the track. Remember the old saying, "More air in, more air out".

And get 'em ceramic coated, it is worth the extra for the heat reduction alone, as well as the looks.

Oh and get whatever brand mufflers Peuty has, fitted in your system when it gets done. His XR has the nicest note I have heard on an AU.
Lukey right?

Forget the nancy boy try Y design PH4001, Go the PH4006 Competition headers they are tuned length 4 into one with 2.5 inch collector you will get a little bit more up top with no loss down low in either torque or HP.
Just the shot for your manual 220 !!

Regards, Craig.

I strongly disagree with this.
Tri-y's will outperform 4-1's on a road going car all the time.
4-1's are only of benefit if you're constantly spinning beyond 6000rpm, and on up to 8000rpm. Not too many road cars dance around on these revs often, and those that can, still predominantly sit at lower revs.

Below 6000rpm tri-y's are better, no question.

I beg to differ, I have 4>1's on mine with more torque than I can poke a stick at.

What you are saying is correct for the 6 but for the heavy breathing Windsor the 4>1 IMO is the better design.

I'm sure you do, however you'd have even more with some decent tri-y's.
My own 342 also has 4-1's, and I'll be ditching them in favour of a hand made set of tri-y's at the next opportunity. It also has mountain of low down torque, though it too will have even more with the tri-y's.

It's correct for any engine at anything other than race rpm ranges.
The Windsor is hardly a heavy breather.

With either the tri-y's or the 4-1's did any of you guys have ur car dyno'd before and after to see where exactly the gains were made. Or are you's just talking about what you "felt" after having them put on?
