Very nearly did until the budget only allowed an 06 LX!
All the reviews I have read sound good. One review I read said that it made good use of the 6th gear, which I really feel the 5sp LX is missing! |

Yer the TDCI i drove with 6spd manual in it was really nice and felt strong on the road in 6th on the open road

I bought one about 4 months ago. Is a great car to drive and much better than the petrol version imo. I have had a few teething problems with wheel bearings and a couple of other things but all under warranty. My biggest complaint would have to be the road noise at highway speeds on not so smooth bitumen roads. This is not just the diesel version so a bit of extra sound proofing from the factory would have been great. Stock tyres don't help either.
The gearbox is great. Not much need to use the manual shift as holding the gear for higher rev's is not any help at all. I think the diesel retains that fun aspect of all Foci in handling but the benefit from all that torque and of course the extra econmy makes it a great car to drive. I drove the i30 diesel recently to compare. Although the Hyundai is an OK car it is very boring to drive. Had a look at the diesel Cruze but didn't drive one so would like to hear peoples opinion on those. |

Well i have '04 LR focus auto and i think the engines in the LRs are quite gutsy and torquey imo i love them

I bought the manual about eight weeks a ago. The TDCi has more than enough grunt meaning you hardly have to change gears. No teething problems yet (fingers & toes crossed). Averaging about 5.4km/100 meaning no need to fill up until 900kms +. As Jumbuck said, on coarse roads the noise is a bit loud which I think comes down to Ford's choice of tyres.

Yer every car has its negatives but they are really nice and grunty, but yer my LR 2.0 auto has heaps of power for me, they seem to hold well around 2500-3000 rpm
