ABS issues.... again!

Well blow me down, the ABS is playing up AGAIN!

After countless hours and money spent on getting it working, its decided to give me the ups in the form of two glowing warning lights.

New symptoms are confusing:

Traction control and ABS lights are off on startup (i.e. everything working)
Will stay off until about 40k's an hour then magically come on.
Stopping the car and leaving it on doesnt make them go away.
Turning the car off then back on makes them go away until you speed up again.

This has been a royal PITA and I've cleaned the front sensors of grunge just in case.

The front left abs cable did get pinched between the lower control arm and shock when I was lowering it however surely that would mean the sensor wouldn't work at all if i'd squashed the cable beyond repair.

Thoughts?

As my first thought was a wheel speed sensor and you've mentioned the wiring being pinched then that is almost certainly the issue.

ecu reset?

Haven't tried an ecu reset yet, might try that tomorrow.

I also thought that the pinched wire might have been an issue russellw, however it mystifies my as to why it would work up until a certain speed....

If the ecu reset doesnt work I might just try replacing the wire as the sensors are around $100 from memory.

It been a fun week, abs issues and now 2 door actuators need replacing, heh...

Well I reset the ECU and a big fat nothing happened, so I pulled out the abs sensor and tried straightening the cables, again, nothing.

So I was wondering, can you simply cut the cables just before the sensor as well as the plug and replace the damaged part with new cable then put some protective plastic over? Or would it be safer to simply buy a new one. I'm handy with a soldering iron and I can't see it being that hard to do.

Give it a go and if you fick it up, buy a new one.

I had a similar issue recently where ABS only came on after moving

It was the tone ring that the ABS sensor picks up info from
One of the ones on the back halfshaft was dented, only small but you could see it with your eyes, bent it straight and all good again.

I had just changed a diff and the damaged halfshaft was put in as the other one was worse.

Something to check anyway
