Bought my XW from my old man when I was 15, he had it for sale and I didn't want it to go, so after searching and not having any luck finding a nice Fairmont I bought it from him, still have it to this day.

When i was 16 back in 1981. I paid a mate $200 for his little 1953 Austin A-30 sedan. I remember vividly riding my pushbike home from where I worked at Big W and there it sat in my parents driveway...was I chuffed!
Hey, don't laugh...it used to be a bucket of laughs to go doing laps of the main street in Bundaberg on a friday or saturday night, and see guys in hotted up Monaros, Falcons, and Toranas offering the girls a few laps of the main street in thier mean machines, and to see the girls instead say "Nah...we'd rather go for a couple of laps in that cute little old car!!" |

I was 15 when I purchased my old 1956 Morris Minor - complete with crank handle as I couldn't afford a new battery. POS stalled at every stop sign & red light. Those were the days.

I was sixteen, it was before I got my P's.
A white 1987 Ford Telstar. It was ugly as dogs balls and occasionally had throttle lag, but I loved it. I put a big (for what it was) stereo in the car and it was a laugh to go cruising down to the shops with mates when everyone else had VR/VS Commodores.

16. Got given a Nissan pintara wagon for christmas 2006, ran on 3 cylinders and not much else, was awesome until an old lady ran a stop
sign and I cannoned into her. Started buying cars myself then and at last count I'm up to about 17!

Geez I guess I was a late bloomer. I was 21 when I bought my first car. An AU XR6. Before that, I drove the old mans EA 4sp auto around. What a beast.
I wrote it off 6 months later. |

Best "First car" I ever saw was a computer technician who came to the mill to do some work when I worked at in Mackay back in 1987. The guy was 22 and had a 1972 Porsche 911.
We were amazed at it...but more amazed that it was packed up with his gear and was bug splattered on the front. It was obviously being used as the maker intended. He said he knew what he wanted when he was a kid...a Porsche 911...and as soon as he was old enough to get a part time job, he saved almost every penny. Rode a pushbike to work and then to Uni, saved and saved and saved, gave up drinking, just worked and studied his ring out. When he was 19, he was able to buy one that needed a paint job, and he was set. It's good to have goals... |
