Righto lads ive an ED here (GLi classic ???)
For a little fun i wanna see what can be removed as excess weight to get a better 1/4 mile time Now its low low budget , so im at this stage looking at weight reduction rather than spending So what have people removed as excess weight and what if anything did it acheive Is a full interior strip out that beneficial at the track Is stuff like running alloy rims as opposed to steel rims that much difference ??? Is there a formula that for every KG you remove will reduce the 1/4 times ??? Or is that another myth ??? Any ideas ??? Edit : Years ago we done similar to a torrie, but we drilled big holes in the doors, but the metal was alot stronger , will the ED doors go floppy if i went that savage ??? We also removed excess steel from the bonnet and boot shells and removed all hinges and brackets and went to a 4 pin style , is there much reduction doin that to an ED, as its struts on the bonnet rather than hinges ??? I assume it's a road going car also?
Pulling out the interior for race day will help you go quiker. Any weight loss will. Smaller petrol tank, gut the doors, etc.

Is it still to remain street reg? There is a fair amount of weight to be taken out everywhere.
-Sound deadner everyhwere under the carpets that's worth removing for a few kgs. -Aircon and its systems, like condenser and plumbing. - Stereo - Back seats - Window regulators, can just fab a little bracket up to hold windows up. - Remover the intrusion bars in the doors - Heater box and fans behind dash. (I just did this and its probably a good 12kg with all the ducting, maybe a touch more.) - Light rims, I think factory steel rims are probably the lightest option. - Sway bar, take the front one out, helps with weight transfer and weight. A 1600kg car with say 110rwkw will do a 16.2@94 A 1500kg with same power will do a 15.8@96 1400kg 15.4@98 So weight is worth taking out, but also horsepower helps lol

Alloy Wheels are a must - steel wheels are to heavy - get some 15x7 Snowflakes - light as wheel and wide for wide tyres
Also check Progect Bluebird out (EF Falcon) see here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1lJomqHniU Dry ice to remove the sound deadner Air Con - Heater removal also

Thanks for the tips
No the car is not regoed, and probably never will be (another rego) Now the rims, just on comparing a 12 slotter factory rim to say an old jelly bean style 5 slot, wow there like chalk and cheese in the weight stakes Be interested in knowing what a 15" snowflake and tyre at say 30 PSI weighs That aside at present ive a choice between the steel factory 14 " rims or the 5 spoke style XR series rims (alloy ???) The air con is goin , its not hooked up , so gone , the steer set up will stay ill throw updates up as i go |

I will weigh the 15x7 snowflake with a Mickey T 235 wide tyre on it when I next go to my parents
Make a build thread in the OzEcruiser Build Section - it also helps you keep a time line of what you have done and when you have done it

15x7 snowflakes with 235 Mickey T's weighed 21kgs
15x6 Steelies/Interceptors with 225 retreads weighed 21kgs The Steelies/Interceptors felt heavier but didn't read heavier But that was on really really old human scales which had one foot missing so prob gave me a wrong reading - will have to find some proper scales lol

15x8 Steelies with 255/60 MT Street Radials are 23kg with a decent set of scales.
