get some throttle body cleaner and take off the air intake pipe, spray it down the throat of the throttle body and wipe with a rag

Now and then i have had it happen when switching between different power modes with the adaptive shift auto. Also i had it happen a few times when i was a bit broke and was just using normal unleaded (could be the fuel ?), nowerdays i just run it on premium unleaded and i don't have a problem , unless sometimes still as mentioned above when changing power modes (when 1'st started in the new mode only) .

You shouldn't need to use the accelerator to start the car - although I guess you already knew that lol.

Ok, so it's got no problems turning over, just firing yeah? If that's the case what I would look at first would be T/B first, then injectors then work your way from there, filter, pump etc.

i think mine has the same problem

on occasion (on any sort of ground level.. sloping doesnt matter)
ill hit the key and it will kick over then splutter and stall
then ill cranker her over and it wont fire at all..

then i turn it all the way off.. then click slowly thru the ignition(so it gives time for tha fuel pump 2 make sure its all pressurised etc) and ill do it and it will usually start then..
but other occasions it takes ANOTHER kick to start and i have to catch it with some throttle..

very strange

i think ill give the t/b clean a go

Blackers - yours sound like one of 2 things:
1. Idle Speed Control valve not working
2. Battery on its way out.

My olds' car was doing this - starting, idling, then dying. Turned out to be the battery. So clean the ISC out first, and if that doesn't improve it, get the battery tested - it may still show 12 volts, but it may not have much currect capcity so will drain very easily and quickly.

Dont spray right on it.The throttle body cleaner is highly corrosive to plastic and can run straight to the map sensor and stuff it.It has to be removed.
