Mildura based Lamattina Bros. Racing with Darren Morgan at the helm of their top fueller did the fastest time out of Nth America and the fastest time ever in Australia with a pass of 4.61@315mph at the Willowbank Nationals in QLD. He backed it up with 3 successive 4.6 sec passes to confirm the record
Thats over 500km/hr in 400m from a standing start..... Link to short vid of run |

Saw him race at the winternationals. He is fast and consistentely so. That is unheard of outside of north america. Good on them, they deserve it.

awsome run on friday night. the national record is 4.66 not a .61 because he didnt run within 1% of that 4.61 as he did a 4.66 and a 4.68 still 3 passes in the 4.6s is awsome . too bad its ranied out and every one is on there way home. every national event he go too it rains the old man is spitin chips about it as he ran a 7.27 on the last quilafier last night and the data we got he trought he could but a little more clutch in it and go a little quicker today but its not to be. good for me i dont lose any points to anyone this round :

I HEARD that in the states they can run more overdrive from the blowers and i think we are still running less overdrive from the blowers .i pretty sure this is correct can't be 100% sure tho. thats probaly why they are faster.

4.441 for the states. Fastest MPH is 336.15. Both held by the same guy, Tony Schumacher.

Damn, I type to slow. The guys over there are also very consistene, and suffer a lot less engine and driveline failures. I guess this is because of the amount of money being spent over there.

Top Fuel is the same over there as here , But Doorslammer is diferent , they have more restrictions over there with blowers , over drives , rear end gears and clutches , so here should be faster in Doorslammers

But once again the US is more consistant.... Top fuel is more restricted in the states than here, they have less nitro and Less rpm to name a couple... Also the T/F record is now 4.437 held by Schumacher still..

Well done to the Lamattina/Fuchs Team, fantastic effort. It was a shame they didn't have such a good run at East Coast but by the sounds of it they have made up for it!

Our cars are every bit as good as their's but we don't have the same grip levels.
Their big meets run about 1200 cars; ours 400 approx. They run a lot more fast cars and collectively they lay a lot more rubber. The few times Aust cars have run in top fuel the yanks sat up and took notice. And no we don't have the same amount of money generally speaking. Australia sits at a very high level in drag racing! |

Alot of the top NHRA contenders will have more track time in a season than what most of the fuel car drivers here will have in there career...

Are they running 90-95% nitro here like in the states? or are we still on 100%?
Also TF/FC in the states run a 32 car field for the finals from memory, all seem to be quick cars, in Aus were lucky to have 4 cars that are competitive.

16 car fields and i think its only 85% nitro they changed it will darren russule had his crash and died last year. and we can only wait and see how good our tracks are when dave gubnic and doug kalita and the whole kalita racing team comes out to race at wsid on boxing day! i am thinking if they can get the tune right we might see a 4.5

The fields in the US are 16 cars only. Yes we don't have as many cars as the US but you have to remember to population, costs, opportunities etc and the sport of Drag Racing in the US is a full time business. In Australia it is a hobby to most. We have some real nice facilities here now (some of the tracks in the US are terrible Phoenix to name one) and our Nitro guys are as passionate as anyone in the world and well done to them all for having a go......... : : |

A mate goes over to the states at the end of every NASCAR season and fills a container with "obsolete" engines and parts for use in Sports sedans etc here, he says its absolutely amazing what the teams over there rate as obsolete and discard!

I don't believe they can run on just 100% nitro, they need some methanol in the mix to help it ignite or control the burn
