Default Progress - AU XR6 Motor in ED

Started working on removing my motor and replace it with an AU XR6 motor, with 50,000k's on it...

Here is a few progress pics...

I also got the motor today, it had a bit of damage to the P/S Pump, and its cactus... so i will have to keep my existing pump, as i was going to sell it with the motor.

there is some slight reworking of the k frame in EA-ED, but unfortunatley there isnt a chance in hell of fitting an AU motor into EF/L due to the EF/L K Frame shape...

looking nice paul when are u planning on putting the new one in? this weekend?

as far as I'm aware, pauls not touching the k frame, just going to grind the front of the sump off, should all fit in snugly

yeah, grinding the sump is another way of fitting it into ea-ed.

wont help with fitting it into an EF/L though...

yeah, the EF/EL kframe needs a fair chunk of metal taken out of it.
it cann be done and then be strengthened, but no matter whats done to it authorities won't like it.
if they notice it :P

yea, just have to grind off a little of the sump...

the idle wont be that much of a problem, well actually thinking about it, i was told the cam i got should have an angry idle... i hope so...

i cant wait to get this in... i am not motivated at work, especially seeing it now and then... i make special trips to actually make sure its still there...

IMO you'd be better off fitting up an EA-ED K-Frame inf you wanted to put an AU engine into an EF/L.. im told the EF rack will mount up to the earlier k frame......

Is it possable to put a AU front end in the EL inc suspecsion uprights and so i can run the AU II twin piston Setup?

if i rebuild a cranky motor ill be useing a AU bottom end and a EL head. so i guess that would take major mods but determination can achieve anything

Juz Gremlin - Yes you could put an AU motor in your EA. There would be a quite a few more things you would have to do as you currently have CFI... but, yes it can be done.

AUII SE Ute - I have a nice cam ready and waiting to go in, and then get the chip recalibrated... apart from that, i will see how it goes N/A... There could be forced induction down the track i think...

Sounds good. You reckon you'll have it ready for the dyno day?

I found the motor on ebay, and then ebay took it off, as he had hemi, dodge, holden etc in teh description. i had been emailing the guy, and it had 20 hours left before it got removed...

So i made an offer and he agreed.

I have a reprogrammable ChipTorque chip, which i also got off ebay... $150... bargin. i have had it recalibrated so i can use my original auto computer with the manual.

Lookin good. I would recommend cutting the crossmember and welding it an inch forward though. I ground my sump and it still touches when you corner hard or brake while cornering which gives a very annoying vibration right through the floor pan.

for such low k's thats a steal! Would an au engine go straight into an EB2 as easily as ED? Whats involved in the changeover anything to major?

well the bad girl is in now...

i have to get the old ac system degassed, and i am going to source a new ac condenser.

only things to go on now is to fit the exhaust, gearbox, tailshaft.

Things i need to buy, PCV Valve, and i have to get some sort of bottom radiator hose conversion from the smaller AU water pump to the larger ED radiator inlet...

ohh i cant wait...

the only problem we have really had was the flywheel bolts being too long, so we ground them down, but unfortunatly too much, but luck was on our side, and a guy down the road just happened to have some spare bolts that had the same thread, and the perfect length... i will post some pics soon...
