Default No O/D and irregular shifting--4spd Auto.. Please Help!

Hi everyone,

I have a 12/89 EAII S-pack sedan with thr 4-speed automatic. Yesterday I towed a car and trailer, and whilst it was towing it was shifting fine between the gears, and reached overdrive on the highways (it did however shift between 3rd and Overdrive quite regularly). After unloading the car and trailer and driving under normal conditions, it will not shift until around 2000rpm (normally around 1500rpm) and wont shift into 3rd without heavy acceration and I have lost overdrive altogther, does anyone have any ideas or solutions? Could it be a simple case of a sensor failing or overheating the ATF oil?
Any suggestions appreciated

Thanks

Dan

do you have a trans cooler on the car, if not id say that the fluids definatley been overheated and possible done damage to the trans...

get it serviced and see if it comes good, otherwise it could be new trans time...

No trans cooler, I checked the oil yesterday after I noticed the irregularities and it was black as, last I checked (about a week or two ago) it was still red. Hopefully I havent done much damage to the transmission, I will definitely get the oil replaced though.. does it have a internal or external filter?

Thanks
Dan

oh dear, it doesnt sound like good news for your trans then.
they have an internal filter (ie drop the trans sump and you should see it.)
hopefully you dont find parts of the trans in there as well........but it is very much likley

its only safe to tow under 500kg without a trans cooler..... you have most likley done serious transmission damage...

you'll probably be recomended to replace the trans, when you do fit a decent transcooler.

If you notice it constantly shifting between 3rd and 4th, drop it back a gear. Give it a service and see what happens, otherwise might be up for a newie.
