Default Powder coating of rocker cover

Hi guys

About a month ago I read a thread where Bucknaked was talking about powder coating his rocker cover. It got me searching the local yellow pages for powder coaters.
By systematically scanning all available business websites, I came across these guys www.hilustre.com.au
As luck would have it, this is the company that does the powder coating for Ford and FPV (textured black for XR8 rocker covers and textured blue for GT rocker covers) they also do many other colors as well.
When I called and asked them how much for the FPV GT blue they told me $25 +GST= $27.50 but at that price I had to wait 1 to 2 weeks as they would be adding my cover on the same line as that for FPV. If I wanted it sooner and in any other color it would cost me $100.
By the way I also purchased a brand new cover from Ford for $95 as second hand are going for about $50-70 I thought what the hell, I might as well have a new one.

This is the result when I opened the box at home...

...and this is the cover installed by Brenden today at JMM.

Hilustre Coatings is located at 55-57 Lipton Drv. Thomastown, Melbourne.

Wow, thats a fantastic finish. Looks really good.

My only suggestion would be to carefully sand the lines down the rocker cover and the "Intech" bit, would make it stand out and look even better IMHO. But there's certainly nothing wrong with it how it is.

Looks awesome ... and I like B2TF's idea as well .... just to break up the blue a little ... and give that kinda polished look for the lettering too.

That's a very nice finish! Well done Hilustre. I wouldn't mind doing mine in the XR8 black if they could do it for the same price.

That looks sensational Geza. I think my cover is all finished, I just haven't been to pick it up yet. Next week I think sometime.

But it looks great. Interested now to see the finsih on mine. I've asked for the writing and letters on mine to be left so they don't get coated.

Looks great

No post involed mate. Dropped it off and picked it up when they called to say it was ready. Call them to ask if they do post orders. As for the gasket, it is reusable but I had a new one installed.

Cheers

I'm getting mine tommorrow. Will post pics after the weekend as I'll be away overnight. Same deal as Geza. The pattern on the cover is coated. But we will hit it with fine grae sandpaper to remove the coating on the writing.

Talking Looks Great!

Looks really good! Are they easy to take off? Do the people who paint then take it off in the $27.50 price?

Cheers

That price would be coat only.
I'd imagine you'd need to clean it before giving it to them to as $27.50 is dirt cheap already.
Certainly wouldn't include removing it from the car although it isn't hard it wouldn't be worth their time in labor & they probably wouldn't know how :P

Simon, they charged me that price because I had to wait 2 weeks until FPV put in a factory order for a whole lot of blue GT rocker covers. Then they just added mine to the line.
Like I said, if you want it done yesterday OR in any other colour they charge $100.

Hope this helps
Gerry

This is not so clear, but when i get some decent images, I'll post them.

Finally got the cover back. A few issues, but all is cool now. So the cover is back. next steip is to get some sand paper and remove the coating from the raised area's. So it all comes out silver. For now here is one picture. More better pics to follow in a day or 2 as well as the finsihed job.

Looks good their Bucky. Its going to look even better when you rub the bits back to silver. What were the issues you had with the powder coating.

It got bumped and a part of the coating became damaged. Theres 1 spot near the rear that the coating never took real well. Where the bolt goes through to the head. But it will be covered by the leads and eventually when i get the intake done it will be covered by that was well. Just looking at it in place on Gerry's car, it looks like its the way it works
