Default AUIII XR8 220 on LPG - Will it work???

Hey everyone,

I've been thinking about a new ride maybe later this year, I love the idea of a V8, does anyone here have a Series 3 XR8 on gas? I read somewhere they need Premium unleaded so will it be OK on gas? I plan on having it dual fuel so will warm it up on petty and then switch to gas.

Any idea of consumption? I'd guess around 20L/100kms which wouldn't be too bad with the price of LPG. I could always switch to primo petty to have some fun.

I drive about 500kms a week so need it to be relatively cheap to run.

Gas Octane rating is higher than premium, so no problems in that regard.

it would run ok just needs a bit of tuning as petrol needs less initial advance and more total advance, gas needs more initial advance and less total because of the way it burns diff but can be done through comp i guess.

my advise is run straight gas. All the V8's ive had on gas responded better to dedicated tuning.

a completely different engine i realise, but a 5.7 manual crewman i drive (thats made by that "H" brand, btw ;) ), has an injected Tartarini kit on it fitted and tuned by the owner (gasfitter for 15 yrs). It goes at least as well as it does on petrol (dyno proven), and uses 13l/100 (measured at the bowser) in mixed use. same general use on petrol is 10.9..
just food for thought.

Agreed - on a 220 XR8, gas sequential injection on a dual fuel setup would be the way to go. Same power, similar economy and half to a third the cost of petrol at the pump, but installation is around $4000.

As long as the price of LPG stays low(er) than petrol.

Whilst both my falcons are on gas, I've found gas to be a more finicky fuel, requiring more maintanance than petrol. If nothing goes wrong however, you are well out in front with gas.

I didn't opt for the gas injection though, $1000 extra was just too much an extra outlay at the time!
