Changing the OFFSET

Ok does anyone know if you can change the offset to AU from pre-AU??

And how much would it cost ESTIMATE!

Coz I am sick of hunting around for f k n rims! Every were I go no sorry we only have one kind(the worst looking mag in the world) and then they say you will have to get them made from scratch...

: I am just doing my head in so can someone help

You cannot change the offset.

3 piece rims are the exception as you can get new centres with correct offset.

Pre AU is +6
Post AU is +35

AU spec offset can be done by AU front suspension transplant and AU live rear end.

Walkinshaw - has anyone ever done this? I was going to go to the wreckers tomorrow and have a damn good look at the respective EB/AU setups, as I'm looking for a set of rims and it's impossible ti find anything bigger than 17x8, unless I get simmons which will be about $2500 - not cool.

Is there welding involved or just carefull matching of parts?

an EA at winton had AU front suspension & brakes.
basically modified the kframe to accept the AU lower control arms and radius rods, the rest bolted straight in.

Why does everyone seem to have so much trouble finding rims in the E-series offset. When I was looking there were about 8 different styles in 18" and I wasn't even trying that hard, just at beaurepairs and bob-jane.

There is a wrecker who will do an AU2 front end conversion to EA-D's (and presumably EF-L's). I havent heard anything on the cost of this conversion though.

The biggest drawback with Au setup is the lack of dish you can get on your rims.

Actualy...hrmmmm.... AU2 front end, 18x8.5 and run an Eseries rear diff and get some 18x10.5's in there

IMHO most of them look gay or are the same as everyone else has. Plus, if you want anything wider than 8" you have to either buy genuine GT wheels or get them custom made. 8" is just not enough :P

Well I went to the wreckers today for a look at some AUs.

I could only find a couple of series 1 AUs, the 2 and 3 might be different as they have different brakes, but it seems unless you do some serious K-frame modding and are a very competant welder/fabricator it's not going to happen.

The main problem is that on the E-series cars the bottom ball joint is attached to the strut that the brake rotor etc is attached to, but on the AU it is attached to the lower control arm.

If they both had the ball joint in the same place then it would be easy, but they don't, so its poo.

AU diff looks like it should bolt straight in though...

if i knew what had to be done it would be no problem at all. all i would have to do is con my old man into doing it (boiler maker for 36yrs).

thats pretty much the case Rollin, the S2 and S3 are the same, fairly hefty mods required, but it can be done.

the only person i've seen thats done full Kframe from an AU into an eseries actually cut the chassis rails and welded in the AU parts, it worked but still not exactly simple :P

can you describe what they look like? pics? what are they made of? What are the studs and nuts made out of? A couple of the guys up here have tried them and had lots of drama -they tend to work a little loose and make 'clicking' noises when turning corners, then if left they cause vibration at speed...

Maybe you have a different type to theirs? I'm interested...

All adapters are basically the same..

Just stop being so picky bout your rims.. and dont just go to your standard shops.. ring the manufacturer and ask what they have to suit your car.. then when you find a style you like head to your local ripoff.. i mean tyre dealer and get them in.. thats how i got my rims.. minus the tyre dealer part.. LOL..

I think i came across atleast 20 different rims in 18" and atleast 10 in 19"+.. admittedly some do look similar but most of them suit the e series cars..

in nsw you can put whatever size you want as long as the overall diamater of the tyre is no more than +or- 15mm of the original. however with 20's youd need a very low profile.

I don't want 18s or 19s, I want 17s, but I want 17X9, or at least 8.5. Skinny rims are crap.

I also don't want anything that could be called "chromies" because thats not what my car is about - If other people want to make the outsides of their cars look hot and not do the drivetrain/suspension then im cool with that, but it's not what I want.

I have emailed approximately 11ty billion rim manufacturers about wheels, none of them have anything in the size I want, and I really don't like the design of most of the smaller (read: width) rims.

My error.. i was always lead to believe in nsw you could not go larger than 2".. after checking out the RTA website.. i was wrong.. my apologies..

I still dont know why the cops always question me regarding being 5" bigger than stock when i am in NSW.. maybe they dont realise the rules have changed or something..
