Default XR8 T5 into turbo 6

I have a plan but I dont know if its good or bad...Thought i'd turn to the experts...I am looking to buy a gearbox for my turbo'd car..... (old evlelf)....As it has a history of blowing them to bits...I have found many threads about T5 v8 gearboxes not fitting into the 6 motors ..... that the input shaft is different and such????? Havent found a thread where someone has gone into detail about why these gearboxes cant fit.

A mates dad purchased 50 AU XR8 T5's serveral years ago and has some left hidden under a blanket I tripped over.....Jumped for joy until I read a post about them not being able to fit... but to me they look identical, not that I had one side by side... anyway I could probably con him into selling me one cheap as chips...... I am desperate to know if anyone has actually made one of these gearbox's fit a 6 or know how to make these gearboxes fit the 6..... I have a 6cyl t5 but I would rather not put it behind a turbo'd motor as they seem to have a hard time surviving behind N/A motors.

Brett.

hmm I'll have to talk to him but they have been their for years and years so i'd say he's having trouble getting rid of them.... and he buys smashed cars and repairs them..... which doesnt really explain why his got so many gearboxes..... I'll ask him lol....

This may seem like a silly question, but do are au box's the same length as e-series ones?I seem to recall reading somewhere that the shifter is further back(on an au t5) too?

You are correct, shifter sits further back in the AU.

iirc, the EB SS (ten built for production car racing) had modified V8 T5's behind the 4.0.
