Default Gulf Western Oil Withdraws From Top Fuel Competition

It is with regret and a tinge of sadness that Gulf Western Oil announces that it has been forced to withdraw its financial support of Top Fuel drag racers Terry Sainty and Bob Shepherd.

Gulf Western Oil marketing manager Ben Vicary concedes that the company is disappointed to be ending their association with two of the most likeable teams within the Australian Drag Racing community.

"We are all very disappointed to be leaving the sport, however due to spiraling base oil prices… caused by record crude oil pricing and soaring regional demand for base oil, has resulted in raw material increases [we've] never seen before," explained Vicary.

“Hurricane Katrina in the US last year completely flattened one of the world’s largest additive plants and this loss, coupled with strong demand, has resulted in chronic raw material shortage and huge increases being passed on by the manufacturer. Unfortunately this situation means that we must reduce our spending.”

Vicary explained that it was Gulf Western Oil’s pleasure to be involved with two magnificent Top Fuel teams; and have enjoyed the close family ties that they have developed with both Sainty and Shepherd. Vicary couldn’t stress enough, Gulf Western Oil’s appreciation of all the hard work that the pair have put in over the years.

Gulf Western Oil will continue to provide both Sainty and Shepherd with product / oil support and wish them all the very best for the future. Gulf Western Oil is particularly proud to have been the sponsors of both teams when they recorded their first ever four second passes and look forward to seeing them achieve many more.
