Default Hypotheticals

Just some ideas / thoughts I want to propose to the forum members.

1) If you had $80,000 to buy a new car, and it COULDN'T be a ford, what would it be and why?

2) XR6T / XR8 / FPV cab chasis utes. The XR6 is available, but not the models first mentioned....if they were, would you buy one.

My answers, 1) Liberty GT - Old lady has a 06 2.5R and this is a superb car, GT would be just that bit more fun.

2) XR8 cab chasis makes me almost wet....mmmmm V8 one-tonner goodness :

1)Evo 9

2) If i was a tradie i would buy cab chassis V8. I don't think would be to hard to give you the choice bewteen the stlyeside & the cab chassis because it all bolt on to the same chassis. The only differents would be the rear spring fitted to the ute.

I'd buy a Commodore.

Not as fancy or as good, but I choose to support local industry.

And I hate Toyotas.

The 380 doesn't appeal to me as much...
I actually liked Magnas though. I found them pretty comfortable. I never drove one though.

But they aren't a bad car, it has been reported many times.
So I wouldn't write it off.

Id buy a classic Holden or Chev, most likely a big block Camaro if I could find one. Why? I already have a great daily driver and they are a reasonable investment at the moment.

I'd buy a VE SS-V and put a heap into mods.

2) XR6T / XR8 / FPV cab chasis utes. The XR6 is available, but not the models first mentioned....if they were, would you buy one.

I'd get the XR8.

1). VW Golf R32 3-door DSG + VW Polo 1.4 Manual
2). Don't like utes, don't like flat-tops even more. So nah, no interest.

A couple of points...
Firstly, a NEW car...can't be classics. They aren't new, and are no longer available as new behicles.
Second, given that globalisation has made the world international with something like half of all car sold being imported, anything in Australia can be referred to as local industry. Well, that's what I do anyway.
And buying Holden from your local dealer is still supporting local industry. The salesmen keep their job, the accountants that manage the finances have a job, the janitor that cleans up afterwards has a job...they need to sell to keep in business.

No where in the first post did it say that it had to be brand NEW model..?

BlewThunder, can you clarify if you mean for the $80k it must be a brand new 2006 model or can it be just new car for you i.e. it's new because you just purchased it, not new in age?

1) Holden SS wagon - great family car; all the power and storage you need in one package, with enough $$$ left over to get it up to 300rwkw or thereabouts.

2) is not really a hypothetical, you can get either the XR6T or XR8 as a cab chassis, it just involces a little more money. ie, you have to buy the car as a styleside ute, then at your expense get the tray removed and your own flat/aluminium tray fitted in its place - sell the styleside tray or make it into a trailer and you're laughing. Which would I go - the XR8.
