Default new donk for my TE

what do you reckon i should get? im after something smallish so <3.0L but a bit more daring than the stock pinto motor.

one of my main concerns is fuel economy, so im probably going to be looking at something fairly new.

my pick so far is the 3.0 SHO out of a taurus @ 220 bhp but im yet to be able to source one.

opinions much appreciated guys.
