Default Whats AU3 XR8 worth these days ?

Hi guys,

I'm looking at joining the AU crowd at the moment, mainly an AU3 XR8

Seems the going rate in Perth is around 25k, which is not what I'm prepared to pay for one. I've seen 2 for 23k-25k, neither which had the Rebel kits on them. That price is nearly BA MK2 prices with the mates rates I get from a local Dealership.

So I'm basically wanting to know who are the dreamers, the sellers or myself !

Basically chasing one thats: top condition, Rebel kit, manual, pref < 100,000km.

What is a fair price to pay for such an item ?

The sellers are the dreamers if you really do some shopping around over east 20K is an easy bet. Seen a couple a nice ones for that even saw a decent one go for 18K it's madness with pursuits and TE50's sometimes going as low as 25K.

These are private sales though.

Buy mine for $12000, get whatever kit you want, ship it to Perth and you'd still have plenty of change out of $20k

Without doing any research I would say you should be able to get a good AU3 XR8 with all the bells and whistles with 100,000k's for under $20k,

In Perth you'll probably pay around $30,000 for a decent one i'd say...

My mate in Perth was thinking of selling his AUIII XR8 a few months ago for $25000. Its bassically got everything: Rebel Kit, Full Leather, Sunroof, Silver, Manual only done around 30,000 kms too. He hasnt put it on the market yet as he works up in Newman (car gets left here though). I can find out if he still wants to sell it if you're interested.

I bought my AUII XR8 a few months ago in Perth for 15,500. No kit or anything and only the 200kw motor but i couldnt really afford to pay around $20,000 and this car was in immaculate condition.

I looked in to buying over east and driving it back here but i couldnt be bothered in the end. Takes time and if you dont find what you want over there its a big waste of money to come home empty handed. I worked out it would cost between 1000 - 1500 to fly there and drive back.

What would be handy is if an AFF member is prepared to check the car out for you if its close buy just to check the condition etc. Still a bit of risk in doing that.

I was keeping my eye out for about 6 months before i bought mine as i was in no hurry so they do come along for the right price if you wait. Most dealers wouldnt budge on their $25,000 + prices too

I've been looking at AUII rebels and late AUII 220kw XR8s, for between $15-18 thousand. I certainly wouldn't pay over 20k for one that would fit all your criteria, even with leather etc.

Bought my AU3 XR8 auto with leather for $17k from a Ford dealer with 103k, log books and 2 year warranty.
Shop around. You'll get a great one for a good price.

Thanks for your advice guys. Looks going over east is going to be the best bet.

I thought around 18-20 would be a fair price as well. I'm guessing more Victoria would be more plentiful for cars ?

Mate you'd be crazy not going for a T2, around the same $$ as the XR but make sure it has a 220 engine.

I paid $14300 on the road for mine in December last year. 2001 Rebel, manual, 110,000kms. Talk about value for money!

It was originally advertised for $16,000, remember to always haggle!! Just point out any (however minor or trivial) imperfections and then pretend not to be interested anymore because the car is not 'perfect'. Usually the response will be "well, what if I was to take x amount of $ off the price..?"

By the way, awesome car to own/drive, highly recommend getting one! Especially what they are going for now days.

l agree, go for a T2 TS50. There is a beautiful Gunmetal Grey one for sale on this forum in Melbourne, at 20k its exceptional value.

l just picked up today a one owner T3 TS50 with 91000kms for $26k. The T series are a great second hand buy.

Cheers

Depends on your age. My TE50 is less than $1k to insure from Shannons.

Spend big on what exactly?

I can think of a few things:
Spark plug leads from Ford @$800 (or $200 aftermarket).
T series interior parts are astronomical prices (low volume = high cost)
I'd imagine engine bits for the T3s would be pretty exy too, but the T1 & T2 should be OK - same running gear as AU2 & 3 XR8s.

Any V8 for a person under 30 is going to be expensive to insure if you haven't had insurance for at least 6 years, claim free, previously.

Put it this way, I am 21 (although bought my ute and first insured it when i was only just 20) and I pay $1400 a yr full comp, in my name with 60% NCB.

T-Series v XR8 for upkeep is about the same, as JC said the only thing that would cost you more in terms of parts over an XR8 would be if you were replacing specific T-Series bits i.e. interior trim and some panels. Otherwise everything is stuff you would go through on any car - tyres, oil, plugs, leads etc.

yep if it's a 220kw like the XR8 nothing expensive at all. T1 T2 included here.
Now as mentioned trim etc gets expensive but you arn't replacing those items as often as the consumables.
T3 add on much higher fuel costs due to the 5.6l but that's not what your looking for.

well ford quoted me $914 on a grill. They didnt even know that a TS50 had transmission controls on the steering wheel, and they said if this brakes then good luck to you on fixing it.

I was looking at buying an AU3 xr8, had a rebel kit, manual, herrods enhanced and only done 60,000k that was going for under 30, then i looked over my shoulder and saw the car i drive now, 3v Ba fairmont Ghia. bought that thing for under 26,000 and it out does the AU3 in every aspect. I still have a soft spot for au3 xr 8's. Wouldnt mind to own one one day.
I believe the ghia i bought was much more bang for your buck than the XR was ever going to be. But it all comes down to what you want to pay for, if you can find a very low km au3 XR8 around the 25g mark i say grab it!

good luck anyway.
