Geez, I hate that! That on a miserable POS triton, when you're doing an oil change, to get to the sump plug, access couldnt be any easier , even if its behind the centreline of the front axle.

BUT

WHY oh WHY did they make the dang oil filter so hard to get at? not only do you need to remove the bash plates from under the front end, but to get to the filter you need a quadruple jointed arm because it seems the filter is halfway up the front of the engine, almost at the same level as the done lamp in the cabin..... and theres always a hose & suspension parts in the way!

So you will take it back to the dealer I spose...

Mate had a Die Hat Soo Rocky many years ago, and I recall him saying you need to remove the starter motor to change the filter.

On another note, I was tasked to do oil and filter on a V6 Alfa Romeo. I couldn't do the filter. From memory, you needed to undo rear engine mount, jack up engine so the filter would clear rear exhaust manifold. It was a $50 dollar job. I told him, no dice sunshine. You want it do, pay me A LOT more for my time...

I was watching a video the other day of someone doing a very basic service on a 911 GT3. To drain the oil, you have to remove three drain plugs and crack loose one of the oil cooler lines to drain it properly. Then, to change the air filters, you have to remove the rear bumper and both tail lights. You would think the German's would be smarter than that.

I've been looking after a commercial property for a few years now on a busy corner, within walking distance of the local white-trash cesspit of town. This was a new build, which meant a corresponding new build garden.

Well, the amount of plants that got stolen over the first two years was just ridiculous, no doubt someone has started themselves a nice garden............or sold them on marketplace for a tidy profit. The owner continued to fund the replacements, and I continued to plant new plants that would disappear within a few hours.

Well, now that the garden has started to establish, the plant thieving has stopped. But now the hoodlums have taken to snapping lawn sprinklers. And not your average plastic pop up, but the expensive gear driven ones that cost at least $30 a pop plus my labour to replace. Major pain in the ar.e.

Many moons ago my across the road neighbor that I didn't see eye to eye with would reverse out of his driveway and reverse up on my lawn damaging my geared sprinklers in the process, no sooner I had replaced it he would do it again (not worth confronting him, being a mental case), so I made a mould to do a concrete reinforced sprinkler base to bury, made using a off cut of PVC pipe, a plastic cool drink bottle and a home made wooden form to pour the concrete in, along with a premade section of retic pipe with a replaceable screw in section (just incase), I have not lost a sprinkler in my front lawn for years, now I even drive over them myself .

I made them so the green bunnings plastic surround fits in the top and level with the lawn, they sit in the concrete form low enough to make it difficult to remove with the top on, but pop up high enough to do the lawn.

For a moment there, I thought you were going to say that you installed some spikes in the lawn to put an end to such antics in one flat tire...............at least that's what I would do.

How are they damaging them? Kicking them off, driving over them or other?

I would offer some of the locals a six pack a year to keep wrecking things, and keep stacking up those billable hours.
Irrigation is the gift that keeps on giving.

Irrigation is my worst nightmare. If it was a car, I would set it and forget it.But, when it comes to Irrigation, the darn thing will not do as it should every time they turn it on. Who would do this for a living?
Constant complaints by the owner, my ???? isn't working. I paid YOU to: install, fit and deliver a working system. IT'S NOT WORKING she yells..

I'd rather deal with a blocked drain...

pffft over this way 3 passing lanes created on different main roads, packed down clay nothing under that then bitumen sprayed over. took 4 years to finally complete the 3 jobs. 1 large business collapsed financially and I know of 6 other businesses they were ruined.
Dont get me started of government deleteing railway and allowing extra road trains

I'm not sure if the following should be in this thread, the "why is it" thread or the "made me feel good" thread, but I guess I hate ignorance the most in regard to this story...........................

I’ve been amused reading a series of posts by a guy on another forum. He’s the sort that if you say you like something, he immediately hates it. If you say you like something that you know he does too, well, he will suddenly hate it. You know the sort, the ones who refuse to learn anything new because what he knows is all that’s worth knowing or doing.

Anyway, his latest dribble surrounds Cadilac and rear-wheel drive vehicles. He went on to say that he doesn’t like rear wheel drive and would never own one because he didn’t like how it drove. And what determined this hatred for rear wheel drive? His friend once rented a brand new Crown Victoria and he drove it and found it handled like sh.t. Oh, and the big hump reduced legroom...............despite him sitting in the drivers seat.

Like, those Town Cars were based on a body-on-frame platform that debuted in the 1970’s and were made virtually unchanged right up until 2011. They were incredably durable vehicles, which why the police used them. I agree with him, they handle like sh.t. But..................my goodness he needs to find a better benchmark because a properly sorted RWD vehicle is a joyous driving experience.

Knowing he is a Cadilac fan, I then went on to mention cars like the modern CTS, ATS, CT4, CT5 and CT6 being RWD and quite accomplished in regard to handling and steering department. Oh but no, apparently those are for nancy boys who have no interest in driving and that the real Cadilac’s are front wheel drives like the following…………………………….

None of this I’m making up, he is adamant a front wheel drive V8 Cadilac will always be better than ANY BMW or Mercedes…………………..or even Cadilac’s properly modern vehicles. He also thinks these stodgy Cadilac's have superior build quality.....................which is a complete lie when it comes to US made vehicles, at any price.

For more perspective, this man also thinks chrome wheels are the last word in modern wheel design………………………….you know, the sort of wheels Ford used on the AU LTD.

But......................we are talking American's here.

Imagine thinking that a cost saving and packaging measure like FWD should have any place in a Cadilac and that makes sense

Geez! I hate that

I'm currently scouring carsales for a work ute with a Telstra style canopy setup on it, and its deadset shocking how many cealers, when filling out the "description" part of the vehicles webpage, will say absolutely ZERO about the vehicle, but will write an essay that Leo Tolstoy himself would be envious of, all about the dealership.

Please understand
I DO NOT care how long your dealership has been going
I DO NOT care about your easy finance deals
I DO NOT care that your dealership is family owned
I DO NOT care about your workshop testing, its expected that the car comes with a legitimate roadworthy/safety certificate
I DO NOT care about your extended warranty options

What I do care about is the vehicle, so PLEASE tell me about the dang thing, dont just rely on a few photos to do the job.

And while you're at it? What your "Best price first fixed-price philosophy equals better value for you and provides a simple no-haggle, no-hassle vehicle buying experience" actually tells me is that you're a pack of arrogant ****ers who practice predatory buying at the fleet auctions so you minimise the competition you have to worry about, meaning you can ask the higher, more profitable prices with relative impunity.

Just like real estate agents that do great pictures and a great description but have "call for price"

Then there is the online shops that do the same.

Its all to get you in the door or to call.

The biggest turn off for the AU LTD is the chrome grille and wheels IMO.
If I bought one I’d source the Fairlane alternatives and swap them out.
Mercedes also offered chrome wheels in the W126 and W140 S Class for the US market. Looks cheap and tacky, every other market got more understated painted/polished alloy.

That bloke sounds like the Cadillac equivalent of the stereotypical Corvette owner.
My uncle has a 1980s Lincoln, has an injected 5.0 with something like 180hp.
It rides like shit, built like shit and it would get smoked by a Thai special. Not a chance it can compete with an E32 7 series of W126 S Class. They absolutely shit over it at every level.
From memory Cadillac had an advertising campaign back in the 70s or 80s targeting Mercedes.
In saying that, those old 70s-90s American barges are pretty cool.

They also did an 8.0 V8 in fwd. 400hp from memory.
