I need to replace the AC compressor on my MC Mondeo TDCI. I was quoted $1300 to replace it. After watching a few YT videos it seems like its a simple and easy job to replace. I have subsquently sourced a second-hand AC compressor from a wrecked Mondeo which I'll install once the system is degassed. Does anyone know how much oil I need to put in the compressor prior to installing and or have any other relevant info I may need to know? Thanks.

If you have the means, consider power flushing the entire system, and put in the total volume of oil.
Unless you’re quick in your works, you may need to replace the drier cartridge as well. |

hi
But why are u replacing the compressor ?? Compressors rarely fail by themselves . Clutch worm out clutch pulley bearing compressor seized due to internal failure refrigerant leaks also leak compressor oil overcharging can cause compressor oil burning undercharging causes reduces flow of oil evaporator dirty causing compressor liquid flooding [compressors cannot pump liquid] Always Always change receiver drier /desiccant bag , Often these dont get changed. [A moisture free system is a healthy system ]. Why did the compressor fail ??? Compressor Internal failure debris blocks condenser micro channel pathways . Condensers need replacement in that situation . Its aways best to remove evaporator to flush internally and clean externally Remember to oil balance compressor if not flushing system . If system flushing no oil balance required . When evacuating [using a vacuum pump ] the automotive industry NEVER ever uses a micron gauge . A system needs to be on vacuum pump for 2-4 hours generally do. Heavily contaminated system 12 hours plus . The only way to tell is with a micron gauge . Excessive Moisture causes poor performance of A/C Excessive moisture creates leaks . Excessive moisture creates corrosion internally |

Is there much involved with replacing the drier cartridge on a Mondeo? There was no mention of replacing the receiver/drier in the original quote. |
